The iPhone 14 Plus has the larger screen; the newer iPhone 17 is more compact and brings newer listed camera, chip, storage and connector specifications. For a new-phone buyer, the iPhone 17 starts with 256GB rather than the 14 Plus’s 128GB base option. For someone happy with a working 14 Plus, its larger display may still be the deciding advantage.

Camera specifications
The 14 Plus pairs a 12MP main camera with a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The iPhone 17 comparison lists 48MP Fusion main and ultra-wide cameras, plus 2x optical-quality telephoto framing from the main camera. That is a substantial change in the listed camera hardware and framing options, but megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better-looking photos in every situation.

The generation change is clear, but these specifications alone do not establish a particular speed multiplier or real-world performance advantage.
Does the iPhone 17 have more storage?
Yes, based on the configurations listed here. The iPhone 14 Plus was available with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB; AT&T lists the iPhone 17 in 256GB and 512GB configurations. The newer model’s smallest listed capacity is double the older phone’s entry capacity. Consider how much storage you use now, especially for photos, video and downloaded media, rather than assuming either capacity will suit everyone.

What changes with charging and accessories?
The iPhone 14 Plus uses Lightning, while the iPhone 17 uses USB-C. If you switch phones, check which charging cables and other wired accessories you already own and whether they will still connect. Case and screen-protector compatibility is model-specific, so verify the exact phone model before reusing either.
AT&T’s comparison lists MagSafe charging up to 15W for the 14 Plus and up to 25W for the iPhone 17. Those are stated maximums, not charging-time guarantees; actual charging depends on the charger and conditions.

How much does the iPhone 17 cost compared with the iPhone 14 Plus?
AT&T’s US comparison, accessed October 7, 2026, lists the iPhone 17 starting at $929.99 and marks the iPhone 14 Plus as no longer available from that carrier. It also shows an eligible-trade-in monthly offer, which depends on qualifying conditions and is not an outright cash price. This is one carrier’s listing, not a universal Apple price or a market-wide comparison. A like-for-like current price for a used or refurbished iPhone 14 Plus is not established here, so there is no supported general dollar difference to quote.
If you are comparing a new iPhone 17 with a pre-owned 14 Plus, check storage, condition, carrier lock status and seller terms alongside the price. Those differences can make two listings difficult to compare directly.

Should you upgrade from iPhone 14 Plus to iPhone 17?
Keeping the iPhone 14 Plus makes sense if
- Your phone works well and you value its larger screen more than having a newer platform.
- Its current storage and camera capabilities meet your needs.
- You would rather avoid changing from Lightning to USB-C and reviewing accessory compatibility.
Consider the iPhone 17 if
- You want a more compact phone and a newer chip generation.
- The listed dual 48MP rear-camera system and 2x optical-quality framing appeal to you.
- You want 256GB as the smallest capacity in the configurations listed by AT&T, or prefer USB-C.
The comparison establishes hardware differences, not a guaranteed software-support end date for either model. The choice comes down to your screen-size preference, the 14 Plus’s condition, storage needs, accessory setup and the actual price available to you.
