The OnePlus 15R gives you a much larger, faster-refreshing screen, more listed base storage and a substantially higher stated battery capacity. The iPhone 16 is smaller and lighter, and runs iOS. The right choice depends mainly on size, operating-system preference and local availability—not on specifications alone. A fair current US price gap cannot be established from the available listings: Apple showed the iPhone 16 from $799, while OnePlus’s US specifications page listed 15R configurations but no price.
How the iPhone 16 and OnePlus 15R compare
These are different-sized phones on different platforms. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The Apple specifications cited are from its UK page; OnePlus figures are from its US specifications page, so regional configurations and availability may differ.

Which phone is better for screen size and handling?
Choose the 15R for a larger, smoother display
The 15R’s 6.83-inch display is 0.73 inches larger diagonally than the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch OLED panel. It also lists adaptive refresh up to 165Hz. OnePlus says the highest refresh settings are available only in listed apps, so the maximum should not be read as a constant setting across everything you do. The larger panel is the more natural fit for users who prioritize screen area and high refresh in supported uses.

Choose the iPhone 16 for a smaller, lighter phone
At 170 g, the iPhone 16 is 44–45 g lighter than the listed 15R color variants. It is also shorter and narrower. That makes it the more compact option on paper for pockets and one-handed handling; the 15R’s larger footprint and extra weight are meaningful trade-offs.
What do the chip and memory specifications tell you?
The iPhone 16 uses Apple’s A18 chip. The 15R lists a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and 12GB of RAM. These platform specifications identify what each manufacturer says is inside, but they do not establish which phone is faster in everyday use or gaming. RAM figures are also not directly comparable across iOS and Android.
OnePlus says the 15R supports always-on 120 FPS in MLBB for at least 60 minutes, based on OnePlus Test Laboratory data; it notes actual frame rates can vary with environment and use. This is a vendor test statement for that game, not an independent head-to-head result. The available sources establish no independent performance benchmark comparing these phones.

How do storage, cameras and battery differ?
Storage
The iPhone 16 is listed in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB configurations. The 15R’s listed US configurations are 256GB and 512GB, so its base option has twice the storage capacity of the iPhone’s base option. Storage choices and pricing depend on region; confirm the exact local model before buying.
Camera hardware
Apple lists a 48MP main and 12MP ultra-wide rear camera, with 2× optical zoom capability through the main camera system. OnePlus lists a 50MP Sony IMX906 main camera with optical image stabilization and an 8MP ultra-wide. On the front, the iPhone has a 12MP TrueDepth camera and the 15R a 32MP autofocus camera. These are hardware descriptions, not evidence that one phone takes better photos: megapixel counts alone do not determine image quality, and no independent image-quality comparison is established here.
Battery and charging
The 15R lists a 7400mAh typical battery capacity, with 7250mAh rated capacity, plus 55W SUPERVOOC charging and support for up to 80W with a specified adapter. Apple publishes playback estimates and charging specifications for the iPhone 16, but not an mAh capacity on the cited page. Capacity, charging wattage and manufacturer playback estimates do not establish a directly comparable real-world endurance result; no independent head-to-head battery test is established here.

Which operating system and water-resistance details matter?
The cited Apple UK specification page lists iOS 26 for the iPhone 16. OnePlus’s US page lists OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16 for the 15R. If you already use apps, services or devices tied to one platform, that ecosystem preference may matter more than a small specification difference.
Apple specifies IP68 under IEC 60529 and a maximum depth of 6 m for up to 30 minutes. OnePlus product materials cite IP ratings but qualify water resistance for normal-use and fresh-water conditions, and warn that resistance may diminish. Because the OnePlus rating and its precise regional applicability are not established here, these descriptions do not support a simple rating-versus-rating verdict. Neither rating is a reason to deliberately expose a phone to water.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is the current price difference?
Apple’s US purchase page displayed the iPhone 16 from $799 when accessed for the cited material; the displayed total can vary with carrier discounts and configuration. OnePlus’s US specifications page listed 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB versions but did not provide a current price. The available figures therefore do not support a current, comparable US price difference.

OnePlus published a US notice saying it would conclude product rollouts in North America and Europe. It also said updates, security patches and after-sales support for existing devices would continue under applicable terms. Before buying a 15R, verify that a local listing is authorized, that the exact model is available in your country, and what warranty and support apply. For either phone, compare unlocked prices for the same storage where possible, and check taxes and carrier conditions rather than comparing a promotional or unmatched listing.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Which one should you choose?
- Pick the iPhone 16 if you want the smaller, lighter handset or prefer iOS and Apple’s ecosystem.
- Consider the OnePlus 15R if a much larger screen, high refresh in supported apps, 256GB starting storage, or its listed battery and charging specifications fit your priorities—and you can confirm local authorized availability and support.
- Wait to compare prices if the decision depends on which is cheaper: the verified sources do not provide a current OnePlus US price alongside Apple’s displayed starting price.
Neither the listed chip, camera megapixels nor battery capacity settles real-world performance, photo quality or endurance. Those outcomes need comparable independent tests; none is established by the manufacturer specifications cited here.
