The iPhone 16 is the smaller, lighter option; the OnePlus 13 gives you a much larger, sharper display with a specified 1–120 Hz refresh rate and a three-camera rear system. Their US launch starting prices differed by $100, but the base models had different storage. That historical gap is not a guide to October 2026 prices: check current prices for the exact storage configuration before deciding.

Which phone is better for your priorities?

Choose iPhone 16 if you want a smaller phone

At 147.6 mm tall, 71.6 mm wide and 170 g, the iPhone 16 is substantially smaller and lighter than the OnePlus 13. Its 6.1-inch display may suit you better if a large screen and larger body are not priorities. Do not choose on chip names alone

Apple specifies an A18 with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. OnePlus specifies Snapdragon 8 Elite, a Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Adreno 830 GPU, alongside 12GB or 16GB of RAM. These are different vendor-listed configurations, not results from a shared benchmark, so they do not establish a real-world performance winner.

Display and durability: a big-screen versus compact-phone trade-off

Apple lists the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch OLED at 2556 × 1179 and 460 ppi. Its stated brightness figures are 1,000 nits typical maximum, 1,600 nits HDR peak and 2,000 nits outdoor peak. OnePlus lists the OnePlus 13’s 6.82-inch, 3168 × 1440 LTPO display at 510 ppi, with 1600 nits HBM and 4500 nits peak. These brightness labels and measurement conditions differ, so the figures are not a controlled, like-for-like brightness test. Apple iPhone 16 technical specifications; OnePlus 13 US specifications.

Camera hardware and video modes

The iPhone 16 has a 48MP Fusion main camera with sensor-shift optical image stabilization and a 12MP ultra-wide. Apple says the main camera also enables 12MP 2x telephoto. The OnePlus 13 has three 50MP rear cameras: a wide camera with OIS, a 3x telephoto and an ultra-wide. The specifications show different hardware approaches, but they do not establish which phone produces better images.

US launch prices: the $100 difference came with a storage mismatch

Apple announced the iPhone 16 at a US starting price of $799 in September 2024, with 128GB as the base capacity. Android Central reported OnePlus 13 US launch pricing of $899 for 12GB RAM/256GB storage and $999 for 16GB RAM/512GB storage in 2025. Subtracting the reported starting prices gives a $100 difference, with the OnePlus 13 higher—but the comparison is between a 128GB iPhone and a 256GB OnePlus, so it is not a same-storage price comparison. Those are launch figures, not verified October 2026 prices. Apple said US preorders for iPhone 16 began September 13, 2024, with availability starting September 20. OnePlus announced the OnePlus 13 series for North America on January 7, 2025. These dates establish launch history, not current stock or retail pricing. Before buying, compare current US prices for the storage capacity you actually want, and check the seller, availability and any promotion.

Bottom line: match the phone to the trade-off you care about

Pick the iPhone 16 if its smaller, lighter form and Apple’s platform fit you better. Pick the OnePlus 13 if you prefer a larger, higher-resolution display with a specified 1–120 Hz refresh rate, three 50MP rear cameras and its listed fast-charging options. Neither the launch-price gap nor the manufacturers’ specifications settle current value, comparative camera quality, performance or real-world battery endurance.
