Which phone is better for your needs?
Choose the iPhone 16 Plus for a larger screen
The 16 Plus has the larger display by a noticeable margin. That makes it the more natural fit if you prioritize viewing space for reading, videos, maps or games. The trade-off is a larger device to carry and handle.

Choose the iPhone 17e if you prefer a smaller phone
At 6.1 inches and 169 grams, the 17e is the more compact option of the two based on Apple’s published figures. Consider it if a smaller display and lighter handset matter more to you than the 16 Plus’s extra screen area.
Choose by storage, not just the model name
The 17e starts at 256GB, while the 16 Plus comparison lists a 128GB starting capacity. If you keep many photos, videos, games or downloaded files, compare the capacities you would actually buy. A 128GB 16 Plus listing is not a like-for-like price comparison with a 256GB 17e.

How do the cameras compare?
Apple lists a 48MP Fusion camera for the 16 Plus model family and specifies a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 2x telephoto option for the 17e. The 17e also has a 12MP TrueDepth front camera. Those specifications describe features, not overall image quality: megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos, and the available comparison does not provide a complete feature-by-feature 16 Plus camera breakdown or independent image testing.
Does the iPhone 17e’s A19 make it faster?
Apple lists an A19 chip for the 17e and an A18 for the 16 Plus, so the 17e has the newer chip generation. The specifications alone do not establish a real-world speed advantage of a particular size; no direct performance test or independent benchmark is available here. What is the price difference?
There is no verified current U.S. price difference to calculate from the available figures. Apple’s March 2026 announcement gave the 17e a $599 U.S. starting price, while Apple’s U.S. store listed the unlocked 256GB model at $699 and the unlocked 512GB model at $899 when checked in October 2026. Those are different price contexts, and neither establishes the current price of a 16 Plus sold in the United States.
For a useful comparison, check live offers for the exact storage, seller, lock status and condition of each phone. The 16 Plus may be listed by resellers, and new, refurbished and used units should not be treated as equivalent.
