The iPhone 15 Plus is the larger, heavier option, with a 6.7-inch display and Apple’s longer video-playback rating. The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch display and weighs 30 g less. Their core camera system, A16 Bionic chip, Dynamic Island and USB-C connection are shared, so the practical choice is mainly about size, battery expectations and the price of a comparable listing.

What changes between the two models?
Screen size and handling
The Plus adds 0.6 inches of display diagonal and has a resolution of 2796 × 1290 pixels, compared with 2556 × 1179 on the standard model. That gives more screen area for reading or watching video, while the iPhone 15’s shorter body and lower weight are easier to carry and may suit one-handed use. Those are practical inferences from the published measurements, not results from hands-on testing.

If a phone’s size affects pocket fit, grip or comfort over a long session, those differences matter more than the model names.

Battery rating
Apple rates the iPhone 15 for up to 20 hours of video playback and the iPhone 15 Plus for up to 26 hours. That is a six-hour difference in Apple’s stated maximum playback figure, not a promise of six extra hours in every use case. Apple cautions that battery performance varies with use, settings and network configuration.
Apple’s listed fast-charge claim for both models is up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 20W-or-higher power adapter and a USB-C cable; the adapter is sold separately. Apple says its charge test used preproduction devices and that actual charging time varies.

Shared chip, cameras and connection
Both phones use the A16 Bionic chip and include Dynamic Island and USB-C. Their main camera system is also shared: a 48MP main camera with a 2x telephoto option, alongside an Ultra Wide camera. Apple’s iPhone 15 launch announcement presents these as iPhone 15 family features, not a Plus-exclusive camera upgrade.

Which iPhone 15 should you choose?
Choose iPhone 15 if portability comes first
- Pick the standard model if you prefer a shorter, lighter phone for carrying or one-handed use.
- Its 171 g weight is 30 g below the Plus, and its height is 13.3 mm less.
Choose iPhone 15 Plus if you want a larger display
- The 6.7-inch screen gives you more display area for reading and video than the 6.1-inch iPhone 15.
- Its Apple-rated video-playback maximum is higher, which may appeal if long playback sessions are a priority.
The Plus is worth paying more for only if its larger screen or longer stated playback rating is useful to you. The shared chip and camera system mean the extra size does not buy a different core camera setup.
Price difference: launch prices versus current listings
At launch in the U.S., the iPhone 15 started at $799 and the iPhone 15 Plus at $899, a $100 difference. These are 2023 starting prices; they should not be presented as today’s price gap.

Current prices depend on country, storage, condition, seller and availability. Apple’s U.S. refurbished store listed iPhone 15 Plus models at $659 for 128GB, $739 for 256GB and $909 for 512GB when checked in 2026; those listings do not establish a matching current iPhone 15 price. A Swappa marketplace snapshot dated October 7, 2026, showed iPhone 15 Plus listings from $316 and an average of $501. Marketplace prices vary by storage and carrier and are not guaranteed transaction prices.

Water resistance and charging caveats
Apple specifies IP68 resistance under IEC standard 60529, based on controlled laboratory testing to a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes. This does not make either phone waterproof. Apple says resistance is not permanent and may decrease through normal wear.
