The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the newer, larger phone, with a 6.9-inch display, S Pen support and a 200MP main camera. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a 2023 model with a 6.7-inch display and a 5x telephoto camera. In the U.S., their launch prices were $1,199 and $1,299.99, respectively, but those launch figures do not tell you which costs less today: the phones launched in different years, and current prices depend on storage, condition and offers.

Specifications are manufacturer-published, not results from a controlled comparison. The battery row reflects Apple and Samsung estimates using different methods; it is not a head-to-head endurance test. Apple’s playback figure is from its specifications page, while Samsung’s is identified on its product page as an estimate.

Price difference: launch MSRP is not today’s deal
At launch in the United States, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s starting MSRP was $100.99 higher than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s. That is simple arithmetic across prices from 2026 and 2023, not a current price comparison. The iPhone’s present new-stock and resale market is different from the Galaxy’s, and retailer discounts can change.

How to compare current listings fairly
- Match storage capacity: compare 256GB with 256GB, or the same higher tier.
- Match condition: new, refurbished and used listings are not equivalent.
- Check whether each device is unlocked or tied to a carrier, and compare warranty coverage.
- Include the terms of any discount or promotion rather than comparing a promotional price with an ordinary price.
Display, size and handling
Samsung lists a 6.9-inch display for the Galaxy S26 Ultra; Apple lists a 6.7-inch OLED display with adaptive refresh up to 120Hz for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The listed diagonal makes the Galaxy the larger-screen option, while Apple’s specification identifies its panel technology and refresh-rate ceiling. A larger diagonal can suit reading, video or split-screen work, but may be less comfortable if you prefer a smaller handset. Samsung lists the S26 Ultra at 214g and 7.9mm thick; those figures can help if weight and thickness are deciding factors.
Camera hardware and shooting choices
The camera specifications point to different focal-length choices, not a definitive quality ranking. Apple lists a 48MP main camera and a 12MP 5x telephoto camera. Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide camera. The Galaxy’s listed array includes an ultrawide camera; the iPhone specification emphasizes a 5x telephoto. Consider whether you more often frame wide scenes, photograph distant subjects, or want a particular telephoto workflow. Megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality, and the figures above do not substitute for controlled image testing.

Battery claims and charging
Samsung lists a 5000mAh battery and estimates up to 31 hours of video playback. Apple’s specifications give up to 29 hours of video playback for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. These are separate manufacturer claims, not directly comparable test results: the companies’ methods and conditions are not established as equivalent. Use them as vendor estimates rather than proof that one phone lasts longer in everyday use.

Which one makes more sense for you?
Choose around your existing ecosystem
If you already rely on iOS devices and services, the iPhone may fit more naturally; if you prefer Android or use Galaxy devices, the Samsung may be the more convenient match. The published hardware specifications do not determine which operating system or ecosystem you will prefer.
Prioritize the S Pen or the larger display
The S26 Ultra is the option with listed S Pen support and the larger display. That combination is relevant if handwriting, markup or stylus interaction is part of how you use a phone. If neither feature matters, they need not outweigh price, size or operating-system preference.

Consider the age and buying condition of the iPhone
The iPhone 15 Pro Max was introduced in 2023, while the S26 Ultra arrived in 2026. When considering the older model, pay particular attention to whether the listing is new, refurbished or used, as well as warranty and device condition. Do not treat its original launch MSRP as evidence of current value.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBottom line
The Galaxy S26 Ultra offers the larger listed display, S Pen support and a camera system with a 200MP main sensor and ultrawide camera. The iPhone 15 Pro Max offers Apple’s iOS ecosystem and a specified 5x telephoto camera. Their launch prices differ by $100.99 in U.S. MSRP arithmetic, but only a current, like-for-like listing comparison can show which is cheaper for you.
