The iPhone 15 Plus gives you a larger 6.7-inch display; the iPhone 17 Pro is smaller but adds a newer chip, three 48MP rear cameras, faster USB transfers and a higher Apple-rated video playback figure. PhoneArena’s reported U.S. launch prices show a $200 gap, but compare carefully: the 15 Plus starting price covered 128GB, while the 17 Pro starting price covered 256GB. Those are historical launch prices, not current offers.

Which phone has the better screen and size?
The iPhone 15 Plus is the choice for a larger viewing area: its 6.7-inch OLED display is 0.4 inches larger by the stated display class than the 17 Pro’s 6.3-inch-class screen. It is also 5 g lighter, at 201 g versus 206 g. Choose the Plus if reading, video or a spacious interface matters more than carrying a narrower phone; the Pro is the more compact option, but not the lighter one.

How do their performance and connections differ?
Chip generation
Apple lists the A16 Bionic in the 15 Plus and A19 Pro in the 17 Pro. That makes the 17 Pro the newer-generation device, but the specifications alone do not establish how much faster it will feel for a particular app or workload.

USB file transfers
The 15 Plus USB-C port supports USB 2 transfer speeds up to 480 Mb/s. The 17 Pro supports USB 3 up to 10 Gb/s when paired with a compatible USB 3 cable. That distinction matters most when moving large files over a wired connection; the maximum is a port capability, not a promise that every transfer will reach that rate.
What camera advantages does the 17 Pro offer?
The 15 Plus has a dual rear-camera system with a 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The 17 Pro has three 48MP rear cameras and adds professional video options including ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2. On listed hardware and features, the 17 Pro is the stronger fit for varied focal lengths, zoom flexibility and advanced video workflows. The specification comparison does not establish a controlled image-quality result for every scene.

Which has longer battery life?
Apple rates video playback at up to 26 hours for the iPhone 15 Plus and up to 33 hours for the iPhone 17 Pro. These are manufacturer estimates based on Apple’s test conditions, so actual runtime varies with settings, signal, apps and use. Apple Ireland’s standardized product information separately lists 45 hours per cycle for iPhone 15 Plus model A3094 and 47 hours per cycle for iPhone 17 Pro model A3523; these regional label figures use a different measure and should not be read as equivalent to the video-playback estimates. See Apple Ireland’s iPhone comparison information.
What is the price difference?

|---|---|---|
| 128GB | $899 | Not offered at this listed launch tier (PhoneArena) |
| 256GB | $999 | $1,099 |

Check SIM compatibility before buying
The iPhone 17 Pro is eSIM-only. Apple’s specifications list a physical SIM tray for iPhone 15 Plus models sold outside the United States, reflecting regional variation. Before importing either phone or switching, confirm the exact regional model and that your carrier supports its SIM or eSIM configuration.

Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 15 Plus if you prioritize a larger screen and can find it at a meaningfully lower current price in suitable condition.
- Choose iPhone 17 Pro if you need the additional camera hardware and video formats, faster wired file transfers, newer-generation chip or higher Apple-rated video playback estimate.
- Keep your iPhone 15 Plus if it meets your needs; the listed differences do not make upgrading worthwhile for every owner by themselves.
