Specifications are from Apple’s iPhone 14 technical specifications and iPhone 14 Plus technical specifications. The nominal screen sizes are rounded: Apple gives standard-rectangle diagonals of 6.06 inches for iPhone 14 and 6.68 inches for Plus. Rounded corners reduce the visible area from those rectangle measurements.

Does the Plus screen or battery justify the larger phone?
Screen size and handling
Both phones use OLED Super Retina XDR displays. Apple lists typical maximum brightness of 800 nits and HDR peak brightness of 1,200 nits for each. The practical difference is size, not a stated brightness advantage: the Plus is better suited to reading, watching video or viewing more content at once, while the standard iPhone 14 is easier to carry and is 31 g lighter.

Battery estimates
Apple estimates up to 26 hours of video playback for iPhone 14 Plus and up to 20 hours for iPhone 14. These are manufacturer estimates, not guarantees or independent test results; Apple notes that actual battery life depends on use, settings and other factors. The figures indicate a longer stated playback ceiling for Plus, but they do not establish how either phone will perform for a particular user.

Are the cameras and core features different?
Both models have a dual 12MP rear-camera system with Main and Ultra Wide cameras and use the A15 Bionic generation. Apple’s 2022 launch announcement says both have an A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core GPU. The Plus is therefore not a Pro camera or performance tier; its principal hardware distinction is the larger display and body.
Apple also listed shared features including Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite at launch. Satellite availability and service terms depend on region and current Apple terms, so check local availability rather than assuming the feature works everywhere. Apple lists IP68 water resistance, tested to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529; resistance can decrease with normal wear, and liquid damage is not covered by warranty. How much more did the iPhone 14 Plus cost?
At launch in Ireland, Apple listed iPhone 14 at €1,029 and iPhone 14 Plus at €1,179 before trade-in, a €150 difference. Those were starting prices announced on 7 September 2022, not current retail prices. Apple said iPhone 14 availability began on 16 September 2022 and iPhone 14 Plus availability on 7 October 2022. These dates and prices describe the original Irish launch only.

Current prices and stock are not established here. For a useful comparison, match the country, storage capacity, condition (new, refurbished or used), carrier lock, seller warranty and trade-in assumptions. A price gap between listings is meaningful only when those factors align.

Which iPhone 14 should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 14 if you want a smaller, lighter device and do not need the Plus screen area.
- Choose iPhone 14 Plus if a 6.7-inch display and Apple’s higher video-playback estimate matter more than the extra size and 31 g of weight.
- Compare actual offers before buying if price is decisive: use the same storage, condition, carrier status, market and seller terms rather than relying on the historical launch-price gap.
For either model, Apple lists MagSafe support. Cases are model-specific, so an iPhone 14 case should not be assumed to fit iPhone 14 Plus. Apple states that the box includes a USB-C to Lightning cable but no power adapter or EarPods; a compatible adapter is optional if you already have one.
