Five product years separate the iPhone 13, introduced in 2021, and the iPhone 18 Pro, introduced in 2026. The newer Pro brings a different processor generation, a smoother and brighter display, updated camera hardware, a longer Apple-rated video-playback estimate, and USB-C instead of Lightning. Those specifications show what has changed, but they do not establish a measured speed advantage or guarantee the same battery life in everyday use. This comparison is specifically with the iPhone 18 Pro; it should not be read as a comparison with a separate base iPhone 18 model.

How much faster is the iPhone 18 Pro?
The iPhone 13 uses Apple’s A15 Bionic, with a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. The iPhone 18 Pro moves to A20 Pro, with a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and dual 16-core Neural Engine. That is a clear generational hardware change, especially in the listed graphics and neural-processing components.

What changes on the display?
Both phones have OLED displays, but the iPhone 18 Pro’s screen is slightly larger: 6.3 inches versus 6.1 inches on iPhone 13. Its adaptive ProMotion display can refresh at up to 120Hz, while the iPhone 13 specifications do not list that capability. Scrolling and supported motion can therefore look smoother on the newer Pro.
Apple lists the iPhone 13 at up to 800 nits typical maximum brightness and 1,200 nits peak HDR. For iPhone 18 Pro, it lists up to 1,000 nits typical maximum, 1,600 nits peak HDR, and 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness. These are Apple’s published display figures; they describe specified brightness capabilities rather than a guarantee that the screen will operate at its maximum in every situation.

How have the cameras changed?
The iPhone 13 has two 12MP rear cameras—a Main and an Ultra Wide—and a 12MP TrueDepth front camera. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro specifications include a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide rear camera and an 18MP Center Stage front camera, alongside additional Pro camera and video features.

What do the battery figures mean?
Apple lists up to 19 hours of video playback for iPhone 13 and up to 36 hours for iPhone 18 Pro. These are manufacturer-published maximum estimates, not a promise of that runtime in everyday use. The specifications do not establish that Apple measured both models under identical conditions, so the figures should not be treated as a controlled head-to-head battery test.
Apple’s 2021 launch announcement said iPhone 13 offered “up to two and a half more hours in a day than iPhone 12.” That statement compares iPhone 13 with iPhone 12, not with iPhone 18 Pro. Apple’s iPhone 13 launch announcement also described the display’s outdoor brightness as a 28 percent increase to 800 nits over iPhone 12; that is not a comparison with the newer Pro.

What happens to cables and accessories?
iPhone 13 uses a Lightning connector; iPhone 18 Pro uses USB-C. If you upgrade, check which cable and accessories you rely on before switching. Lightning accessories may need a compatible alternative or an adapter, while USB-C accessories are the relevant connection type for the iPhone 18 Pro.

Is upgrading from iPhone 13 worthwhile?
The iPhone 18 Pro is the more compelling option if you specifically want its 120Hz adaptive display, higher listed brightness, newer Pro camera features, updated chip hardware, USB-C, or Apple’s higher video-playback estimate. If your iPhone 13 still meets your needs and those changes do not matter to you, the specification comparison alone cannot establish that you must upgrade. It also cannot predict the exact speed, photo, or battery improvement you will experience.
