There is no measurement or Apple confirmation, so this is a broad design rumor rather than a reason to assume a specific model is changing.
What the thinner-bezel report says
MacRumors reported on October 5, 2026, that Weibo leaker Instant Digital had claimed iPad bezels would become significantly narrower. MacRumors did not reproduce a verifiable, word-for-word statement from the leaker; it summarized the claim. Read the MacRumors report.

The report supplies no bezel dimensions, screen-to-body ratio, or estimate of how much narrower the bezels might be. It also cites no confirmation from Apple. “Significantly” is therefore an unquantified description, not a specification.
Which iPad might get thinner bezels?
The report does not name a model. It says the claim could concern the entry-level iPad or the iPad lineup more broadly, but does not establish either interpretation. It is not possible to identify a particular iPad as the target from the information reported.

MacRumors places the claim amid separate reports about future refreshes to the entry-level iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. It also notes other rumors: the next iPad mini is said to be in line for OLED and slimmer bezels, while the iPad Air is expected to adopt OLED in 2027. Those reports are separate context; they do not show that Instant Digital was referring to the mini, the Air, or any other specific model.
When could the change arrive?
No release date or launch window is given for the thinner-bezel claim. The report does not connect it to a particular iPad refresh, so the separate timing mentioned for another display rumor cannot be treated as the schedule for this design change.

Should you wait to buy an iPad?
That depends on whether a current iPad already meets your needs. If you need a tablet now, this unconfirmed, model-unspecified rumor does not establish that a better-fitting option is imminent. If you are not in a hurry and thinner bezels matter to you, waiting for a named model, a clearer timetable, or an Apple announcement could give you more certainty.
