For most people, the iPad Air M4 is the better-value choice: it covers everyday work, study, creative apps and media without paying for Pro features you may not use. Choose the iPad Pro M5 if its Ultra Retina XDR display, ProMotion or Thunderbolt / USB 4 connectivity solves a real need. Both lines come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, so decide how large a tablet you want separately from which line to buy.
What are the current iPad Air and iPad Pro models?
Apple’s current lineup includes the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air with M4, and the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro with M5. Both families list Wi-Fi 7 and support Apple Pencil Pro. The central differences are the display and port, not simply the chip names.

It is worth paying more when a Pro-specific feature matters in your day-to-day use. The Air is the sensible starting point if your priorities are a capable current tablet for general work, school, creative apps or entertainment and you do not need the Pro display, ProMotion or Thunderbolt / USB 4.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose iPad Air M4 if
- You want a current iPad for note-taking, browsing, documents, media or creative apps, without a concrete need for Pro features.
- You want to spend less on the tablet and can direct the difference toward storage, cellular service or an accessory you will actually use.
- You need Apple Pencil Pro support: the current Air supports it too, so stylus compatibility alone is not a reason to step up to Pro.
Choose iPad Pro M5 if
- You have a practical reason to want the Pro’s Ultra Retina XDR display or ProMotion.
- Your workflow benefits from Thunderbolt / USB 4 connectivity for external devices.
- You specifically value the Pro feature set enough to justify its higher cost for your configuration.
Apple describes the M5’s performance in task-specific comparisons on its iPad Pro product page. It claims “up to 6.7x faster than M1” for Pro rendering with ray tracing, “up to 6.0x faster than M1” for video transcoding and “up to 3.7x faster than M1” for AI video upscaling. Those are Apple’s manufacturer claims for selected tasks, not independent benchmarks or a guarantee of proportional gains in every app. The available evidence does not establish how much faster the Pro feels for a particular person’s workload.
Should you get an 11-inch or 13-inch iPad?
Size is a separate decision from Air versus Pro: Apple offers both sizes in both families. Think about where and how you will use the tablet rather than assuming the larger size requires a Pro.

For context only, an Apple U.S. education-institution price list dated September 9, 2026, lists an 11-inch iPad Air Wi-Fi with 128GB at $649 and an 11-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi with 256GB and standard glass at $1,099. These are institutional prices, not general consumer retail quotes, and the storage capacities differ, so they are not a like-for-like comparison. Check current consumer pricing for your market and exact configuration. Apple’s U.S. education store sales policies.
Remember to include any extras you need in the total: cellular connectivity, more storage, a stylus and a keyboard can change what the complete setup costs. Confirm accessory compatibility with the exact iPad generation and size; the current Air and Pro both support Apple Pencil Pro.

What should you know about battery life and performance claims?
Apple’s comparison page gives an estimate of up to 10 hours for Wi-Fi web surfing or video for models shown. That broad figure does not establish a real-world battery-life ranking between Air and Pro; results depend on use, settings and configuration. There is no independent benchmark or firsthand testing here to support a claim that one current model lasts longer or feels faster in everyday use.

Apple positions the Air for productivity and creative tasks, but that is product-page description rather than independent performance validation. Pick based on the features and workload you can identify, not the M5 name alone.
