Why the alarm “Stop” button moved
In iOS 26.1, Apple is shifting the alarm dismissal interaction from a single, direct “Stop” control to a more “slide-to-act” style. The goal is usually to reduce accidental taps—especially when you’re half-awake and the phone is on a nightstand—but the tradeoff is obvious: it takes an extra gesture to shut the alarm off.

How to get the “Stop” button back (or make it easier)
Depending on what you mean by “Stop”—either a traditional tap-to-stop button or at least a faster way to silence the alarm—the fix will fall into one of these buckets.
Option 1: Check Accessibility settings (make alarms easier to stop)
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Look for options related to Motion, Touch, or Interaction (wording can vary by iOS build).
- Enable anything that reduces “confirmations” or simplifies gestures (for example, controls that reduce motion or require fewer steps).
These settings won’t always restore a literal “Stop” button on every lock screen, but they can make the dismissal flow less annoying and more predictable.

Option 2: Use the “Snooze” option intentionally (until dismissal changes are clarified)
If you can’t find a setting that restores a tap-to-stop button, the fastest workaround is to use Snooze deliberately rather than fighting the slider every morning. It’s not the “Stop” you wanted, but it can reduce the moment-to-moment struggle of getting the slider gesture right in low light.
Option 3: Reboot / update if the UI feels worse than expected
Sometimes a UI change lands with minor bugs—especially around lock screen controls. If the slider feels misaligned, laggy, or inconsistent:

Quick tips to stop alarms faster with the slider
- Use a single, confident swipe—slow dragging tends to cause partial movement and delays.
- Turn up lock screen brightness if you’re waking in a dark room.
- Don’t try to dismiss with one-handed fumbling—align your thumb with the slider’s track so your motion doesn’t veer.
- Consider “Label” alarms (so you know which alarm is going off) if you run multiple alarms back-to-back.
What to do if you’re hoping for a guaranteed “Stop” button return
If iOS 26.1 doesn’t provide an obvious setting to restore a tap-to-stop “Stop” button, the best move is to treat this as a UI regression/feature change and report it. Apple does respond to lock screen usability feedback, particularly when the change affects daily routines like morning alarms. Include details like your model, iOS version, and whether Accessibility options change the behavior.

iOS 26.1’s slider dismissal for alarms is one of those changes that’s small on paper and annoying in practice—especially the first few days when your muscle memory is still expecting a button. The good news is that Accessibility settings and a couple of workflow tweaks can usually make the experience more manageable, even if they don’t literally bring back the old “Stop” control.
