What the Ionmax ION622 offers
The ION622 uses compressor technology and R134a refrigerant. Ionmax’s Australian product page lists 12 L/day extraction at 30°C and 80% RH, a 50 m² coverage figure, 230 W power and 45 dB noise. These are published specifications; the figures do not establish how much it will collect in a particular home or how it compares with competitors in controlled testing. CHOICE’s public listing also gives the claimed 12 L/day and recommends a 50 m² room, but its measured performance fields are not publicly visible.

How well does it dehumidify?
The 12 L/day figure is a maximum claim tied to warm, very humid test conditions: 30°C and 80% RH. A cooler room or lower starting humidity can produce less collected water, so do not use that figure as a prediction for day-to-day household use. Ionmax’s 50 m² coverage figure is likewise a product-page specification, not a guarantee that the unit will control humidity uniformly in every room of that size.

CHOICE’s public review page confirms the claimed extraction and room-size recommendation, but its listing does not expose measured extraction, energy efficiency, power, noise, measured tank capacity or running-cost results. The public information therefore does not support a verdict based on independent performance or cost testing.
Controls and humidity readings
The ION622 offers selectable humidity targets from 40% to 70% RH in 5-point increments, as well as continuous operation. The timer can be set from 1 to 24 hours. It also has a dimmable display and a filter that requires periodic cleaning.

The manual states that the displayed RH has a tolerance of ±10% RH and that readings can vary with room temperature. Treat the display as a guide rather than a precision instrument. When the unit reaches its target, it pauses dehumidification for 60 minutes, then runs the fan for five minutes to sample the air. It restarts dehumidifying if humidity has risen by at least 5%.
Tank capacity and continuous drainage
The 1.8 L tank is small compared with the manufacturer’s claimed maximum daily extraction of 12 L. The unit stops when the tank is full, so in humid conditions it may need emptying more than once during a day if you rely on the tank. For less interruption, Ionmax documents continuous drainage through a hose with a 12 mm inner diameter.

Route the hose downhill to a suitable drain, avoiding sharp bends, and make sure the tank remains properly fitted. Confirm hose fit and the drain arrangement for the specific unit; the available product information does not establish that a hose is included.
Placement, temperature and maintenance
The manual describes the appliance for domestic or light-office use and specifies an operating range of 5–35°C. It should stand upright on a level surface, with the air inlet and outlet unobstructed. Ionmax’s manual advises at least 40 cm of clearance from nearby objects and keeping clothes a safe distance from the outlet. The room may warm by 1–3°C during operation.

Check the filter about monthly, or more often if conditions call for it. Clean it and let it dry fully before reinstalling; do not operate the dehumidifier without the filter. Restricted airflow or an unsuitable room temperature can affect operation.

Availability is unclear beyond the current listings cited here. Ionmax’s product page shows the ION622 as sold out and lists A$299, while CHOICE labels the model discontinued. Before buying a listing, confirm the exact model, condition, seller, delivery arrangements and written warranty eligibility.
Should you buy the ION622?
The ION622’s published features—adjustable humidity targets, continuous mode, a timer and a continuous-drain option—may suit someone looking for a domestic compressor dehumidifier for a warm, humid space. Its key trade-offs are the modest tank, the need to interpret extraction claims in light of their stated test conditions, and uncertain availability. The public CHOICE page does not provide the measured efficiency, noise, extraction or running-cost evidence needed for a tested-value comparison.
For an alternative, compare appliances using extraction measured at stated temperature and humidity, suitable room size, measured energy use and noise, tank size and drainage, low-temperature operation, dimensions, warranty terms, stock condition and total running cost. Do not assume that another model’s advertised litres-per-day figure is directly comparable unless its test conditions match.
