At the listed US annual prices checked in 2026, Autodesk Inventor is cheaper than SOLIDWORKS Design Standard by $235 per user per year. Inventor is $2,585 annually; SOLIDWORKS Design Standard is $2,820. That is a useful starting point, not a complete buying verdict: SOLIDWORKS Professional and Premium cost more, and the right comparison depends on the features, license term, deployment and local price you actually need.

How much does Inventor cost per year?

Autodesk lists Inventor in the United States at $2,585 per user per year, or $320 monthly and $7,755 for three years. These are US-dollar vendor prices on Autodesk’s purchase page, checked October 7, 2026; taxes and other costs are not included in the figures. Autodesk also directs occasional users to Flex, its day-based access option. Autodesk Inventor pricing and product page

What does the price difference actually tell you?

Against SOLIDWORKS Design Standard, Inventor’s listed annual price is $235 lower per user. That arithmetic does not show that Inventor is cheaper for every buyer. If a project needs capabilities available only in a higher SOLIDWORKS tier, comparing Inventor with Standard would not be a like-for-like assessment. Conversely, paying for a higher tier without using its additional tools may not make sense.

Which capabilities should you compare?

Inventor

Autodesk describes Inventor as mechanical design software for 3D modeling, simulation, visualization and documentation. Its product page highlights multi-CAD translation and native DWG drawings. Autodesk’s July 21, 2026 overview also describes parametric modeling, large assemblies, sheet metal, frame and weldment design, tube, pipe and harness modeling, production drawings and iLogic automation. These are vendor capability descriptions, not independent evidence that Inventor performs better than SOLIDWORKS on a particular project. How do licensing and deployment differ?

Inventor’s access rules

Autodesk says Inventor runs on Microsoft Windows and subscribers can install and use the current version and three previous versions. A subscription can be installed on up to three computers or devices, but the named user may use it on one computer at a time. Autodesk Inventor product page

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

SOLIDWORKS licensing choices

SOLIDWORKS presents a named-user single-user license with access across multiple devices and cloud connection, as well as a device license that is machine-locked or network floating, with cloud capabilities activated as needed. The vendor says those two deployment choices share the same 3D CAD functions and interface; that statement applies to the licensing options described, not to every SOLIDWORKS package compared with Inventor. SOLIDWORKS Design product page

License terms also matter. Autodesk lists monthly, annual and three-year purchases plus Flex access. SOLIDWORKS lists quarterly and annual offers and says resellers can discuss flexible options, including perpetual licensing. Do not compare a subscription price with a perpetual-license quote as if they buy the same rights for the same period. Autodesk Inventor purchase page SOLIDWORKS pricing FAQ

How can you decide which CAD software fits your workflow?

  1. List must-have features. Identify the simulation, manufacturing, rendering, electrical or other specialized tools your work requires. Verify their availability in the exact SOLIDWORKS tier or Inventor subscription under consideration.
  2. Match the license and term. Compare equivalent periods and access rights, including named-user, device, floating or occasional-use needs.
  3. Test representative work. Use your own parts, assemblies, drawings, file exchanges, automation and manufacturing handoffs. The vendor material describes features but does not provide a controlled head-to-head performance benchmark.
  4. Check deployment and collaboration. Account for Inventor’s Windows requirement and usage rules, SOLIDWORKS’ license options, and the cloud collaboration services included with the specific offer.
  5. Get a local quote. Confirm currency, tax, renewal terms, support and any reseller conditions in your region. US list prices are not universal prices.

No cited vendor material establishes one product as categorically better for every workflow. A trial or evaluation using representative projects is more informative for fit than comparing feature descriptions alone.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
