The Intel Surface Laptop 15 has the edge if you need broad Windows app and game compatibility, stronger graphics in the reviewed comparisons, or Thunderbolt 4. It is not simply faster across the board: Snapdragon may lead in raw CPU performance, and Microsoft’s published battery figures for the Snapdragon model are not a direct comparison with Intel. The answer also depends on which generation you mean: the 2025 Surface Laptop 7 comparison and the 2026 Surface Laptop 15 Gen 8 business review cover different machines.
Which Surface Laptop 15 should you compare?
There is no single, same-generation Intel-versus-Snapdragon comparison behind these findings. Notebookcheck’s March 2025 review compares a 15-inch Surface Laptop 7 with Intel Core Ultra 7 268V against a Snapdragon X Elite model. Its October 2026 review covers the newer Surface Laptop 15 Gen 8 for Business, with Intel Core Ultra X, and compares it with Snapdragon consumer models. Those are different generations and product segments, not interchangeable configurations.

Microsoft’s May 2024 fact sheet identifies the 15-inch Surface Laptop 7th Edition as a Snapdragon X Elite model with Qualcomm Adreno graphics and a 45-TOPS Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. That specification describes that generation; it should not be assumed to apply to later Surface Laptop models. Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 7th Edition fact sheet provides the original specification.

Compatibility with Windows software
Notebookcheck describes the Intel Surface Laptop 7 as avoiding the x86 app compatibility issues associated with the ARM-based Snapdragon model. Its 2026 Gen 8 review also lists app and game compatibility among Intel’s advantages. This makes Intel the safer choice if your work depends on older Windows programs, specialist software, particular drivers, or games that you cannot replace.
#1 Best Overall
- A PREMIUM PERFORMANCE LAPTOP — Ready for work, school, and creativity. Built for busy days, big projects, and nonstop multitasking. Run video calls, school and work apps, 20+ browser tabs, and AI tools at the same time without slowing down.
- WITH AI BUILT IN — With a dedicated AI chip (Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite), this Copilot+ PC[5] on Windows 11 helps you work smarter and faster. Prompt, create, and automate with ease - ready for even your most demanding tasks.
- A 15" TOUCHSCREEN YOU'LL ACTUALLY USE — Sharp colors, real detail, smooth 120Hz scrolling on the PixelSense touchscreen[1] with LCD display[2]. Tap, scroll, or pinch to zoom - whichever feels right for streaming, editing photos, or daily work.
- 19 HOURS OF BATTERY (LEAVE THE CHARGER) — Up to 19 hours of video playback[3] on a single charge. Work from a coffee shop, take it to class/work, or binge an entire season on a long flight — it'll keep up.
- Two USB-C / USB4[4] ports and a microSD card reader for fast charging, big file transfers, or hooking up to three 4K monitors when you want a full desktop. Wi-Fi 7 keeps you online and fast wherever you are.
That does not mean every app has a problem on Snapdragon. If you are considering an ARM Surface, check the exact software and peripherals you rely on with their vendors or current compatibility documentation. A general statement that an app runs on Windows is not enough if it depends on a specific driver or plug-in.
Graphics and gaming
In the games and configurations it tested in 2025, Notebookcheck recorded stronger results for the Intel Surface Laptop 15 than for the Snapdragon model. Its 2026 summary likewise identifies better Intel GPU performance. These findings support an Intel advantage in the cited comparisons, not a guarantee that Intel wins every game or graphics workload: results depend on the game, settings, drivers, and exact laptop configuration.
Neither review supports treating these thin laptops as a substitute for a dedicated gaming machine. If a particular game matters, look for results for that exact game and configuration, and confirm that it supports the processor architecture.

Thunderbolt 4 and peripherals
The 2026 Gen 8 review identifies Thunderbolt 4 as an Intel-model advantage. That can matter when choosing docks and high-speed peripherals, but confirm the port list for the exact business SKU you intend to buy; a review of one configuration does not establish the ports on every Surface Laptop 15.
When Snapdragon may be the better fit
CPU-heavy work
Intel’s advantages do not amount to an across-the-board CPU win. In its 2026 Gen 8 review, Notebookcheck says raw CPU performance may favor the Snapdragon SKU. For workloads dominated by processor calculations, compare results for the specific application rather than using graphics performance or compatibility as a proxy for CPU speed.
Battery expectations
Microsoft’s Windows Performance Lab reports the following results for the Snapdragon Surface Laptop 15 in its Windows ADK Battery Life tests conducted from June through September 2025:
Rank #3
- Power to do what you want with up to 70% more speed than before and an 11th Gen Intel Core processor.
- Thin, light, elegant design in choice of two sizes: light, portable 13.5” or larger 15” that’s perfect for split-screen multitasking.
- Show your best side on video calls with sharp video and image quality, even in low light, thanks to a front-facing 720p HD camera.
- Enjoy theater-like sound for movies and shows with Omnisonic Speakers backed by immersive Dolby Atmos6.
- Be heard loud and clear on calls with dual far-field Studio Mics that capture your voice and reduce background noise.
- Web browsing: 19.26 hours.
- Local video playback: 28.09 hours.
- Streaming: 21.06 hours.
These are Microsoft manufacturer test results, not independent measurements, and they do not establish a controlled, same-lab battery comparison with the Intel model. Actual runtime depends on usage and configuration. Microsoft’s Surface Detailed Test Results lists the figures and test period.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIntel Gen 8 tradeoffs under sustained load
The Intel Surface Laptop 15 Gen 8 for Business has limitations worth weighing if you regularly run demanding workloads for long stretches. Notebookcheck reports that the tested unit’s single-fan cooling limits sustained performance. It also says the included 65W power adapter is insufficient under load for a short period, after which performance is reduced. That review’s findings are specific to the tested configuration; they should not be generalized to every Surface Laptop or workload.
The same review praises the laptop’s build, keyboard, speakers, webcam, and 120 Hz IPS display. Those are review assessments of the tested Gen 8 business model, rather than a direct proof that it is better in every respect than a Snapdragon consumer model.
Quick Recap
How to choose between them
- Choose Intel if compatibility with x86 Windows software, tested game support, stronger graphics in the cited comparisons, or Thunderbolt 4 is central to your decision.
- Consider Snapdragon if your essential software and peripherals are confirmed to work, your workload is CPU-focused, or its configuration and price better suit your needs.
- For long, intensive workloads, factor in the cooling and adapter limitations reported for the tested Intel Gen 8 configuration.
- Before buying, compare the exact generation, processor, business or consumer SKU, ports, regional configuration, and current price. The 2026 review notes that Intel business models can be bought by private customers, but pricing may not be competitive with the Snapdragon consumer offering; no current regional price pair is established here.
