HotHardware’s March 14, 2018 review found that the 2TB and 8TB Intel SSD DC P4510 drives performed strongly in selected low-queue-depth tests, while showing almost no performance change as data compressibility varied in AS SSD. Those are qualitative findings from a specific 2018 test system—not universal speed guarantees—and the page does not provide recoverable numeric scores from its charts. The P4510 is a U.2 enterprise SSD, so a compatible bay or host adapter and NVMe support are essential.
How HotHardware tested the P4510
Marco Chiappetta’s HotHardware review page, published March 14, 2018, tested the 2TB and 8TB P4510 as secondary volumes. The operating system and benchmark software ran from a separate drive. The system used an Intel Core i7-8700K, Gigabyte Z370 Ultra Gaming motherboard, 16GB of DDR4-2666 memory and Windows 10 Pro x64.

The review says the drives were securely erased where applicable, the system was rebooted before runs, and testing began after it had settled. It also used each drive’s own driver rather than Windows 10’s default NVMe driver. Results from that setup should not be treated as directly interchangeable with tests using a different platform, driver, firmware or test procedure.

IOMeter can compare storage throughput under repeatable access patterns, but those patterns are abstractions. HotHardware cautioned that its selections may not match any particular reader’s workload.
#1 Best Overall
- With 4 TB capacity you have ample space for storing millions of images, hundreds of hours of video or for music lovers, up to a million songs
- With PCI Express 3.1 x4 interface get superb reliability and high-speed data transfer
The two access patterns
- Custom workstation pattern: 8KB transfers, 80% reads and 80% random access.
- Random pattern: 4KB transfers, 67% reads and entirely random access.
The review tested queue depths from 1 to 32. It describes both capacities as strong performers in the comparison: some of the better group scores appeared at lower queue depths, while results were tighter at higher queue depths. At QD1, the review characterized bandwidth and read/write latency as among the best it had seen in that comparison.
The page’s chart values are not available as numeric text, so exact IOMeter scores cannot be responsibly quoted here. The findings describe these specific workloads and competitors, not a prediction of performance in a desktop application, game, database or server workload.
Rank #2
- High Capacity: 8TB solid state drive provides ample storage space for your data needs.
- Fast Performance: With 3000MB/s read and write speeds, this SSD ensures quick access to your files.
- Compatibility: Designed to work with U2 NVMe-enabled systems for seamless integration.
- Durable Storage: Made with 3D TLC technology for reliable data retention and protection.
- Easy Installation: Internal 2.5-inch drive can be installed in a variety of systems for convenience.
AS SSD: compressible versus incompressible data
HotHardware used AS SSD to examine mixtures of compressible and non-compressible data, highlighting 1%, 50% and 100% compressibility. In this test, changing compressibility had virtually no impact beyond what the reviewer attributed to benchmark margin of error. The review’s author, Marco Chiappetta, wrote that “The compressibility of data being transferred on these drives has virtually no impact on performance either — the slight variances here are due to the margin of error in this benchmark.” That statement applies to the AS SSD test reported on this page, not every workload.

Within this comparison, the 8TB drive posted exceptional write numbers, while the 2TB model landed around the middle of the pack for both reads and writes. The page does not provide chart scores in text, so these are relative descriptions rather than a numerical ranking or a general performance guarantee.

What “3GB/s” means—and what it does not
The review’s overall “blistering 3GB/s” framing is consistent with the manufacturer’s peak sequential-write rating, but it is not a recoverable Page 2 benchmark result. Intel’s 2018 brief specifies up to 3,200/3,000 MB/s sequential read/write, up to 637K/139K random 4KB read/write IOPS, up to 1 drive write per day (DWPD), up to 16W and a five-year warranty. These are Intel specifications, not HotHardware’s measurements.
Intel’s performance footnote used an Intel S2600WTTR server board, Xeon E5-2699 v4 at 2.30GHz, 32GB DDR4, CentOS 7.2 kernel 4.8.6 and firmware VDV10120; Intel notes that results vary with system, software and configuration. The ratings should therefore be read as vendor claims under stated test conditions, not as a promise that any host will reach them. The Intel 2018 product brief provides the specifications and test footnote.

Check the interface before buying
The P4510 is not an M.2 stick. Solidigm identifies the product as formerly Intel SSD DC-P4510 and describes capacities of 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB in a U.2 2.5-inch, 15mm form factor, using PCIe 3.1 x4 and NVMe 1.2. It is an enterprise/data-center drive designed for cloud and data-center workloads. See Solidigm’s P4510 product page and the Solidigm product brief.

Used and surplus listings
For a second-hand or surplus unit, confirm the exact model and capacity, request SMART or other drive-health data where available, and check the seller’s return terms and any remaining warranty. A listing for an “Intel SSD DC P4510 U.2 NVMe SSD” describes the relevant product category; the listing alone does not establish drive condition or host compatibility.
How to use this review when comparing drives
Compare storage drives under the same workload and test configuration where possible. For a P4510, the useful decision points are capacity, U.2/NVMe host compatibility, workload behavior, endurance rating, power requirements, and the condition and warranty of the specific unit. The Page 2 results support qualitative conclusions about two capacities in one historical test setup, not a precise numerical ranking against other drives.
