The Core i3-14100 is the stronger choice for multitasking, demanding office work and CPU-heavy games: it has twice as many performance cores and threads as Intel Processor 300, plus larger caches and a faster listed turbo frequency. Processor 300 costs less at Intel’s recommended price and has a lower base-power rating, making it a better fit for basic workloads where those savings matter more than throughput.
Intel Processor 300 vs. Core i3-14100: key specifications
Both are desktop processors launched in Q1 2024, but the i3-14100 has twice the performance-core and thread count. The figures below are Intel’s published specifications, not independent performance-test results.

Which processor is better for your workload?
Choose Core i3-14100 for multitasking and heavier work
With four performance cores and eight threads versus Processor 300’s two cores and four threads, the i3-14100 has more capacity for work that can run across multiple threads. Its larger caches and listed maximum turbo frequency of 4.7 GHz also make it the more capable specification-based choice for compiling, photo work, heavier office use and CPU-limited games. These are inferences from Intel’s specifications; they are not measured performance results.
#1 Best Overall
- 4 cores (4 P-cores + 0 E-cores) and 8 threads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 730 included.
- Performance two core microarchitecture, prioritizing and distributing workloads to optimize performance
- Up to 4.7 GHz unlocked. 12MB Cache
- Compatible with Intel 600-series (with potential BIOS update) and 700-series chipset-based motherboards
- PCIe 5.0 & 4.0 support. DDR4 and DDR5 Memory support. RM1 thermal solution included.
Choose Intel Processor 300 for basic, low-cost systems
Processor 300 is a reasonable fit for basic web browsing, office tasks, point-of-sale systems or a low-cost home server when workload demands are modest. Intel lists its base power at 46 W, compared with 60 W for the i3-14100, and its recommended customer price is lower. The lower base-power figure alone does not establish whole-system electricity use; actual consumption depends on the system and workload.
What to expect from integrated graphics
Both processors include integrated graphics, so a desktop can provide display output without a separate graphics card, provided the motherboard has suitable display connectors. Intel specifies UHD Graphics 730 with 24 execution units and a maximum frequency up to 1.5 GHz for the i3-14100; Processor 300 has UHD Graphics 710 with 16 execution units and a maximum frequency up to 1.45 GHz.

Those specifications favor the i3-14100 on paper, but they do not establish gaming frame rates or which games will run well. The available figures do not include independent gaming tests, so neither chip should be selected on the assumption of a particular frame rate.

Will either CPU work with an LGA1700 motherboard?
Both processors use Intel’s FCLGA1700 package and support two memory channels with either DDR4-3200 or DDR5-4800. A CPU’s support for both memory types does not mean one motherboard accepts both: check the exact board model and its memory slots before buying RAM.

Intel’s Core i3-14100 compatibility page lists H610, B660, H670, Z690, B760, H770 and Z790 chipset families. Chipset family alone is not a guarantee that a specific board will boot the processor: check the board maker’s CPU support list and required BIOS version. Confirm the individual board’s compatibility for Processor 300 as well.

Quick Recap
How to make the choice
- For heavier multitasking, compiling, photo work or CPU-limited gaming: choose the Core i3-14100 for its greater core and thread capacity.
- For basic computing on a tight processor budget: consider Processor 300, whose Intel recommended price and base-power rating are lower.
- For gaming without a graphics card: the i3-14100 has the stronger listed integrated-graphics specification, but no frame-rate comparison is established here.
- Before ordering either CPU: verify the exact motherboard model’s CPU support, BIOS requirements and DDR4 or DDR5 implementation.
