ASUS’s March 19, 2025 announcement lists five processor options for the family: Core Ultra 9 285H, Core Ultra 7 265H (vPro), Core Ultra 5 235H (vPro), Core Ultra 7 255H, and Core Ultra 5 225H. Configurations and operating-system choices vary by product version and market. ASUS’s announcement describes support for multi-display 4K setups and Wi-Fi 7, but buyers should check the exact regional SKU for its ports, OS, and included components.

This is a desk-side mini PC, not a complete desktop setup: you need a display and may need to add memory, storage, or an operating system depending on the SKU. ASUS offers both mini-PC and kit configurations, and some configurations ship without an OS. The Notebookcheck review sample came with Windows 11 Pro, an SSD, two SO-DIMM modules, a 150W power adapter, and a VESA mount; those contents should not be assumed for every retail package. Notebookcheck’s review describes the chassis as user-serviceable.

Notebookcheck characterizes the NUC’s performance as high and reports that the processor can reach 115W in this system. ASUS lists a 65W cTDP for the Core Ultra 9 285H option. Those figures describe different power concepts: the cTDP listing is not the same thing as a short-term maximum operating level.

In Notebookcheck’s test, the NUC scored 16,207 points in Geekbench 5.5 multi-core. That is a result for one review sample and benchmark setup, not a guarantee for every workload. The more important qualification for sustained work is that the NUC did not maintain full performance through Notebookcheck’s Cinebench R15 multi-core endurance test. The reviewer linked the drop to the cooling system reaching its limits during continuous load. Short bursts of work and a long, uninterrupted render can therefore produce different impressions of speed.
What can the Intel Arc 140T graphics handle?
The Core Ultra 9 285H configuration uses integrated Intel Arc 140T graphics. Notebookcheck measured 27.5 frames per second in its 1920×1080 Extreme HD Preset OpenGL test. This is one graphics benchmark, not a prediction for every game or application.

Notebookcheck’s game testing shows that results vary with the title and graphics preset, and demanding games expose the limits of integrated graphics. Expect to use reduced settings in heavier games rather than treating this system as a substitute for a gaming PC with a discrete graphics card. The review also tested an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 connected over Thunderbolt 4; those results describe a separate external-GPU setup, not the NUC’s built-in graphics or an included component. An eGPU’s cost and performance depend on the enclosure, card, and connection.

How noisy does the NUC 15 Pro+ get?
Noise is a meaningful drawback if the computer will sit close to you in a quiet room. Notebookcheck measured about 44 dB(A) average noise under load, with peaks around 53 dB(A). The reviewer found it quiet at idle, although the fan continued running. These are measurements of the review sample, not ASUS specifications; the fan became clearly audible during sustained workloads.

Can you upgrade memory and storage?
ASUS’s datasheet lists two memory-slot options, depending on the configuration, and two M.2 storage positions. The published system-level limits matter more than a processor’s theoretical memory capability when checking what a particular NUC supports.

Those memory figures amount to a listed maximum of 96GB with the specified modules. The datasheet does not establish a 128GB (2 × 64GB) configuration for this system. Notebookcheck says the shorter second SSD position accepts a drive up to 42mm long, so confirm physical length and compatibility before buying an upgrade.

Is it a good fit for your desk?
- Compact productivity and multi-display work: The small form factor, upgradeable memory and storage, and ASUS-listed multi-display 4K support make this a plausible fit. Confirm the exact SKU’s connections and included parts against your setup.
- Long, continuous CPU-heavy work: Be cautious if your workload depends on holding peak performance for extended periods; the review’s endurance test showed a drop as cooling reached its limits.
- Quiet rooms: The measured load noise and continuously running idle fan may be distracting in a bedroom, recording space, or other noise-sensitive setting.
- Gaming: Lighter games or reduced settings are the more realistic match for the integrated GPU. A Thunderbolt eGPU is an optional, separate investment, not a built-in advantage.
Does the NUC 15 Pro+ support H.265 decoding?
The available device-specific evidence does not establish the H.265 decode path for the Core Ultra 9 285H NUC, including which profiles, software players, drivers, or operating-system conditions are supported. If hardware decoding is a deciding requirement, verify it with ASUS for the exact SKU and intended software rather than inferring support from the processor name.

Consider it if you want a compact, serviceable mini PC for everyday productivity, multi-display use, and short demanding bursts, and you are comfortable selecting the right memory, storage, and OS configuration. Look elsewhere if your priorities are quiet sustained operation or demanding gaming without an external GPU. ASUS’s product-family announcement also says the system is tested to meet US MIL-STD-810H; that is the manufacturer’s claim, not independent confirmation of field durability.
