To see installed apps, open Start > Settings > Apps, then choose Installed apps in Windows 11 or Apps & features in Windows 10. If a traditional desktop program is missing from that list, check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

View installed apps in Windows 11

  1. Select Start.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Apps, then Installed apps.
  4. Scan the list or use its search box to look for the app name.

Microsoft documents this path as Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.

Find an app through Start

Start provides another way to discover apps without opening Settings. In Windows 11, the Start menu shows most-used apps first, followed by an alphabetical list. In Windows 10, recently added apps appear before the alphabetical list. Open Start and scan the app list for the name you need; Microsoft describes these routes in its guidance for finding apps and programs.

Check Control Panel for a desktop program

If you do not see a traditional desktop program in Settings, search for and open Control Panel, then select Programs > Programs and Features. Microsoft also uses this route in its instructions for repairing programs. The options shown there depend on the program, so not every app can be managed in the same way.

What to do if an app is missing

  • Check the Start app list as well as the Settings list.
  • For a desktop program, look in Control Panel under Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Do not treat absence from one list as proof that the app was never installed. Microsoft’s app-finding guidance offers other places to look, and does not promise that every installation type or user-specific installation appears in one list.

Some apps are built into Windows and cannot be uninstalled, as Microsoft notes in its app removal guidance.
