Back up anything you need first: installing the template replaces the VPS operating system and erases the data stored on it.
Install the ServerKit template
- Sign in to your hosting control panel, open VPS, and select Manage beside the server you want to use.
- Open OS & Panel → Operating System and select ServerKit. The template guide lists Ubuntu 24.04 and Ubuntu 26.04 as operating system options.
- Enter a panel password or generate one. Store it securely: this is the password you will use to sign in to ServerKit.
- Choose Change OS to begin installation. This replaces the VPS operating system and erases data already stored on the server, so copy or back up important files before proceeding.
Follow the template-specific steps in the official template guide; its interface labels and availability may change.

Sign in to the panel
After installation finishes, open the VPS IP address in a browser. Sign in with username admin and the password you configured during installation. Use the server’s actual IP address rather than the example address in the guide.
What you can manage in ServerKit
The template guide describes ServerKit as a dashboard for VPS applications and server administration. Its documented capabilities include:
#1 Best Overall
- Applications: deploy PHP, Python, Node.js, and Docker applications; the guide also lists one-click templates such as WordPress, Ghost, Nextcloud, and n8n.
- Data and domains: manage MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, domains, and DNS zones.
- Certificates and security: provision Let’s Encrypt certificates and configure firewall rules, Fail2ban, malware scanning, and two-factor authentication.
- Operations: monitor CPU, memory, disk, and network use, and configure cron jobs and backup policies.
These are features documented by the template guide, not a guarantee that every task is configured automatically after installation. For general project installation context, consult the ServerKit installation documentation; its general setup instructions are separate from the VPS template workflow.
Set an optional panel domain
You can continue opening the panel by IP address, or configure a hostname such as panel.domain.tld.
Rank #2
- In your domain’s DNS settings, create an A record for the hostname and point it to the VPS IP address.
- In ServerKit, open Settings → System and find Panel Domain. The template guide also describes reaching the settings using the IP-based panel address.
- Enter the hostname and confirm. Open the panel using that domain after the setting is applied.
Update ServerKit
Connect to the VPS over SSH or use its browser terminal, then run:
sudo serverkit update
The template guide says the updater backs up the database, deploys the new version, runs a health check, and automatically rolls back if that check fails.
