Install a Custom SSL on an Agency Hosting Site

Use Security → SSL → Manage → Install custom SSL to import a certificate, its matching private key, and the CA bundle on an eligible Agency-hosted site.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To install a custom SSL certificate on an eligible Agency-hosted site, open its dashboard and go to Security → SSL → Manage → Install custom SSL. Paste in the certificate, its matching private key, and the CA bundle, then select Install. The included Lifetime SSL is already installed automatically in the usual case, so import a custom certificate only if you have a reason to use one issued elsewhere.

Before you start

  • The website must be added to the hosting plan. If the domain is registered with the provider but hosted somewhere else, install its certificate through the actual hosting provider instead.
  • The domain must point to the hosting account. If you recently changed DNS, allow time for the change to propagate; the provider’s troubleshooting guidance says this can take up to 24 hours, but that is not a guarantee for every domain.
  • Have the certificate, the private key paired with it, and the certificate authority bundle (CABUNDLE) ready. The certificate should be current and not revoked.
  • This custom-import procedure is unavailable for AI Builder sites, where SSL is managed automatically. The certificate activates after the site is published.

Install the custom certificate

  1. Open the dashboard for the website on the Agency plan.
  2. In the left-hand menu, select Security → SSL.
  3. Select Manage, then choose Install custom SSL.
  4. Open the certificate files in a text editor. A typical package may be a ZIP containing a certificate file, often named domain.crt, a private key file, often ending in .key, and a CA bundle.
  5. Copy the contents of each file into its matching field: certificate, private key, and CABUNDLE. Make sure the key belongs to that certificate and the bundle includes the required CA chain.
  6. Select Install. The custom certificate is then used instead of the default Lifetime SSL.

Menu labels reflect the Agency support instructions available on October 7, 2026; dashboard wording may change.

If installation fails

  1. Confirm where the site is hosted. The site must be on the Agency hosting plan; a domain merely registered with the provider is not enough.
  2. Check DNS. Verify that the domain points to the hosting account and look for conflicting A or AAAA records that direct traffic elsewhere. If you changed records recently, wait for propagation before retrying.
  3. Validate the certificate files. Check that the certificate has not expired or been revoked, the private key is the matching key, and the CABUNDLE supplies the required chain. A replaced or lost key will not match the certificate.
  4. Ask the issuer about file errors. If hosting, DNS, and the certificate files check out but the import still fails, contact the certificate issuer for help with its files.

SSL installation is separate from HTTPS enforcement

Installing a certificate does not by itself establish that every redirect or HTTPS-enforcement setting is configured. The Agency dashboard does not provide the usual force/unforce HTTPS control, according to the provider’s HTTPS guidance. If HTTPS has been enforced and a custom certificate becomes invalid or expires, the site may become inaccessible; keep track of its validity and renewal.

When the included SSL is enough

Agency plans include free Lifetime SSL for hosted websites. It installs automatically when a website is added, a subdomain is created, or a domain is parked. If you do not need a certificate issued by another provider, the included certificate is the straightforward option. The available guidance does not establish that a custom certificate is universally better.
