The bundle pairs the bar (model HT-A7100) with Sony’s optional wireless Sub 7, creating the more complete system reviewed by What Hi-Fi? and Tom’s Guide. Whether it is the right buy depends on your need for stronger bass, the package price where you live, and whether the bar fits your TV setup.
What comes with the Bar 7 + Sub 7 bundle?
The Bar 7 is the soundbar itself; its model number is HT-A7100. It has no built-in subwoofer, so a standalone-bar purchase does not include the separate bass unit. Sony lists the Sub 7 as a compatible wireless companion. What Hi-Fi? identifies the reviewed pair as BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7 + S, Bar 7 + Sub 7, HTA7100KIT, or HT-AP710. Listings can use different names, so confirm that both the HT-A7100 bar and Sub 7 are included before buying.

The paired system is described as 5.1.2-channel and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. What Hi-Fi? lists two HDMI connections, including eARC, as well as Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay. These features describe the reviewed system; check the seller’s exact regional model listing for included components and connections.

| Publication | Bar 7 + Sub 7 | Standalone Bar 7 |
|---|---|---|
| Tom’s Guide | $1,099 | $869 |
| What Hi-Fi? | $1,100 | $870 |
What Hi-Fi? also reported £799 for the bundle and £699 for the standalone bar. Compare the current bundle price with the bar plus a separately purchased compatible subwoofer; a small difference in old review prices is not a guarantee of today’s deal. If you already own a compatible sub, buying the bar alone may make more sense than paying for another one.
What do reviewers say about the sound?
Reviews reach different conclusions, and their judgments should not be treated as a guaranteed result in every room. What Hi-Fi? tested the Bar 7 with Sub 7 and praised the combination’s balanced, engaging sound. Tom’s Guide says it tested the subwoofer version and reports clear dialogue, powerful bass, and impressive surround sound.

TechRadar’s more critical assessment concerns the standalone soundbar, particularly its bass and spatial rendering, and notes limited settings and feature omissions. That review does not establish how the Bar 7 performs paired with Sub 7. The distinction matters: the optional subwoofer addresses the absence of built-in bass hardware, but it does not make every reviewer’s evaluation of the complete system identical.

Sony’s U.S. Sub 8 product page lists a displayed price of $349.99, but that is a Sub 8 price, not a Sub 7 price, and may change. Compatibility does not mean every option has the same features, price, or availability. Check the current Sony support matrix and the exact regional product listing before choosing a different model.
What should you check before choosing the bundle?
- Bass and room: Choose the bundle if you want a separate subwoofer included for bass. If you are concerned about bass carrying to neighbors, consider where a sub can be placed and whether its output suits your room.
- TV connections: The reviewed system has two HDMI connections, one with eARC. Confirm that the available inputs and your TV’s eARC setup suit your devices.
- Physical fit: What Hi-Fi? lists the bar at 6 × 95 × 13 cm and 4.6 kg, and the subwoofer at 36 × 35 × 13 cm and 6.2 kg. Check the bar’s clearance beneath the TV and allow space for the separate subwoofer.
- Setup and control: Sony says the latest BRAVIA Connect app is required for supported newer products. Older compatible products require current device software. Check Sony’s current support page for the relevant product and region.
- Model identity: Confirm the listing includes Sub 7 if you expect the bundle, rather than the standalone HT-A7100 bar or a different subwoofer model.
Should you buy the Bar 7 with Sub 7?
For a new system, the bundle is the straightforward choice if you want a dedicated subwoofer and its current price is competitive with buying compatible components separately. The standalone bar is the more logical option if you already have a compatible subwoofer or prefer to choose one later. Compare the actual contents, current regional price, room fit, and app/software requirements rather than relying on a review headline or an old price snapshot.
