Open the Instagram video or Reel and look for its view count. To see more detail about your own content, open the post and tap View Insights if that option appears. A visible counter and Insights are different: not every photo or multi-item post is guaranteed to show a view count, and Insights availability can depend on the account and app.
Where to find the public view count
Video posts
Instagram Help Center guidance says a video’s view count appears below the video and is visible to anyone who can view the post. That guidance is specifically about videos; it should not be taken as a promise that every Instagram post format displays a counter. Instagram Help Center

Look on the Reel for its public counter. For more detail about a Reel you shared, open it and use View Insights when available. Meta has also described accessing Reels Insights while viewing Reels. Meta’s Reels feature announcement

How to open Insights on your own post
- Open the Instagram app and go to the video or Reel you shared.
- Tap View Insights below the post, if the control is shown.
- Review the available performance measures. The labels and controls may vary as Instagram updates the app.

Why a view count may not appear
Instagram’s Help Center result specifically says its described video view count is not shown when a video is shared as part of a post containing multiple photos and videos. That is a format-specific statement, not a definitive rule for every current carousel or photo post. A third-party guide distinguishes public video counts from detailed Insights, which it associates with creator or business accounts; the official guidance cited here does not confirm current account-type eligibility. If you cannot find the counter or Insights control, first check whether you are viewing a video or Reel rather than assuming every photo or multi-item post has the same display. For Insights, check whether the control is available on your post and whether your account has access to it.

Views and watch time measure different things
A view count tells you how many plays or views Instagram reports for the content; watch-time metrics describe time spent watching. Meta defines total Reels watch time as including replay time, while average watch time is watch time divided by total plays. These are additional measures, not alternate names for the view count.
