If Xbox Game Bar is the wrong fit, Windows’ Snipping Tool can record just the part of the screen where an Instagram clip is playing. Press Windows logo key + Shift + R, select the video area, start recording, and stop when the clip ends. You can save the recording or continue editing it in Clipchamp. This captures playback on your PC; it does not establish whether Instagram offers a direct download for that particular clip.
Record the Instagram clip with Snipping Tool

Open the Instagram clip in a PC browser and position the page so the video is visible. Start playback when you are ready to capture it.

Press Windows logo key + Shift + R to open Snipping Tool’s video capture overlay. Alternatively, open Snipping Tool and choose Record, then New. Microsoft documents both routes in its Snipping Tool instructions.

Drag to select a rectangle around the video. Include the player area and, where practical, leave out browser tabs and other unrelated screen content.

This is a screen recording of what is visibly playing, not a download of Instagram’s original video file. Microsoft’s instructions cover general screen-region recording, not Instagram-specific playback, audio, or image quality; those details are not guaranteed for every clip or PC setup.

The main difference is what each tool captures. Snipping Tool lets you draw a rectangle around the video; Game Bar is designed to record an active game or app. Microsoft documents Game Bar’s workflow, including its shortcut and save location, in its Xbox Game Bar screen-recording instructions.

If you use Game Bar after all
Game Bar may still be appropriate if you want to capture an active app rather than select a smaller region. Its documented recording shortcut is Windows logo key + Alt + R; use it again to stop. If the resulting recording has no computer audio, check Game Bar’s Capturing setting and whether All is selected for computer sounds. Find the MP4 in Videos/Captures, as described in Microsoft’s instructions linked above.

Whether Instagram provides a download control for a particular clip, account, or type of content is not established here. If you need the original file, check the options Instagram presents for that clip rather than assuming screen recording is equivalent to downloading it. Recording playback also does not grant permission to share or reuse someone else’s content; consider the creator’s rights and any applicable permissions before doing so.
