Good influencer marketing starts with fit, not follower count. Creators should show why a partnership makes sense for their audience and make their performance easy to assess. Businesses should define the campaign goal, vet the creator, agree on content and commercial terms, and decide how results will be measured before anything is published. Both sides need to handle disclosures and product claims carefully.
For creators: make it easy for a brand to see the fit
Pitch a specific audience match
Before contacting a brand, identify the overlap between what it offers and what your audience cares about. A useful pitch explains who your viewers or followers are, why the product or service belongs in your content, and what kind of partnership you have in mind. A large following by itself does not show that a creator can reach a campaign’s intended audience.

YouTube’s guidance on getting brand deals recommends sharing audience insights and channel-performance data so a brand can assess whether a partnership fits its goals. Keep the pitch concise and tailored: explain the match, propose a relevant idea, and make clear what you are asking the brand to consider.
Build a practical media kit
A media kit should help a prospective partner make a decision, not bury it in a long biography. YouTube identifies active subscribers, views, engagement, and audience demographics as examples of useful information. Choose the figures that relate to the proposed campaign and label them clearly; do not inflate metrics or present past results as a promise of future performance.
#1 Best Overall
- Channel or profile: what you publish and the audience you serve.
- Audience: relevant demographic and geographic information, where available.
- Performance: recent views, active subscribers or followers, and engagement measures that make sense for your format.
- Partnership idea: a short example of how the brand could fit your normal content.
- Contact details: a clear way to follow up.
Use a consistent time period and define metrics if they could be interpreted in different ways. A view count without a date range, for example, is less useful than a clearly labeled recent average. Share only audience information you are entitled to use and avoid implying that a particular demographic or result is guaranteed.
Keep sponsored content recognizably yours
A partnership is more credible when the product fits your subject matter and the content still sounds like you. TikTok’s creator-brand guidance recommends alignment and a creator’s normal storytelling style; this is platform-authored advice, not proof that a specific format will outperform another. Agree on required facts and boundaries with the brand, then create within them rather than turning the post into a script that does not match your usual work.
For businesses: define the campaign before choosing a creator
Write down the objective and audience
Start by specifying what the campaign should do and whom it should reach. Awareness, product education, and a measurable response are different jobs; they call for different content, reporting, and partner choices. State the intended audience, relevant geography, key message, timing, and what success would look like before you start outreach.

Vet relevance, suitability, and performance
Compare potential partners on audience relevance and geography, content quality and fit with their usual style, content history and suitability, evidence of genuine engagement or relevant past performance, and the cost and rights you need. Do not use follower count as a stand-in for all of these checks. Review the creator’s actual recent work and ask for appropriately scoped audience and performance information.
TikTok’s March 23, 2026 Creator Suitability Report describes partner selection, vetting, guardrails, and lifecycle management as parts of responsible creator partnerships. That is platform-authored guidance, not an independent guarantee of results. TikTok One is described by TikTok as providing discovery, workflow, and measurement functions; availability and features can change, so check the current platform information before relying on a particular function.
Set guardrails without taking over the content
Give the creator the accurate product facts, required disclosures, prohibited or unsupported claims, deliverables, deadlines, review process, and reporting expectations. Be precise about what must be included and what must not be said. Leave room for the creator to communicate in their normal style: a partnership can meet brand requirements without pretending the creator’s voice is interchangeable with a company ad.

Agree on commercial and usage terms in advance
Before production, put the arrangement in writing. Clarify compensation or gifting, deliverables and revisions, publication dates, usage rights, paid amplification permissions, exclusivity, reporting, and who is responsible for the disclosure. Specify where and for how long the brand may reuse content, and whether paid promotion is included or requires separate permission and compensation. There is no universal contract template established by the sources cited here; terms should reflect the actual campaign and applicable law.

Disclosures and truthful endorsements
Make the material connection clear to the audience
Payment is not the only possible connection that may need disclosure. FTC staff guidance identifies free or discounted products and other things of value as potential material connections. For U.S.-facing endorsements, use plain, noticeable language such as “ad” or “sponsored” near the endorsement. Do not bury it in a profile bio, behind a “more” link, or in a long block of hashtags.
Make the disclosure fit the format. For video, FTC staff recommends putting it in the video, not only in the caption; spoken and visible wording can reach viewers watching with or without sound. During a livestream, repeat the disclosure periodically so viewers who join later can see or hear it. Platform disclosure tools can help, but FTC guidance cautions against assuming that a platform label alone satisfies every legal duty.
Use platform labels and check local obligations separately
Meta says its paid partnership label is required for branded content involving an exchange of value, which can include gifted products. Check the current platform policy as well as the applicable legal requirements; a platform feature and a legal disclosure obligation are not necessarily the same thing.

The FTC materials discussed here concern U.S. guidance. FTC staff says U.S. law can apply to creators posting from abroad when it is reasonably foreseeable that the content will affect U.S. consumers. UK government guidance from the Competition and Markets Authority also addresses disclosure duties for brands and creators, including paid or gifted posts. Requirements vary by location, audience, platform, and product category, so do not treat U.S. guidance as a universal rule. Health and other regulated categories may carry additional requirements.
Do not claim experience or evidence you do not have
An endorsement should reflect the creator’s genuine experience. Do not say you used a product if you have not tried it, and do not make performance or other claims that the advertiser cannot substantiate. FTC guidance cautions against both misrepresenting experience and making unsupported claims. The Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule, effective October 21, 2024, does not itself establish influencer-brand disclosure requirements; undisclosed material connections may still raise concerns under the FTC Act and Endorsement Guides.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Agree on measurement before launch
Choose measures that match the campaign’s purpose, and agree in advance on the reporting source, attribution approach, and reporting date. For an awareness goal, reach and exposure may be relevant. For a response goal, define the action being counted and how it will be attributed. A platform metric, a creator report, and a sales system may not measure the same thing, so be explicit about which source controls the campaign report.
Best Value
No single ROI formula or attribution method is established as right for every campaign. Record the baseline and the agreed measures before publication; afterward, interpret the results against the stated objective rather than switching to whichever metric looks strongest.
A focused workflow for both sides
- Set the goal and audience. The business defines the campaign job and intended audience; the creator checks that the partnership fits their content and viewers.
- Assess fit. Review audience relevance, geography, content style and history, suitability, genuine engagement, and relevant past performance.
- Agree on the brief and terms. Confirm claims and boundaries, deliverables, deadlines, review, compensation or gifting, usage rights, exclusivity, disclosure responsibilities, and reporting.
- Publish transparently. Use a clear disclosure appropriate to the format and platform, and make only claims supported by real experience and evidence.
- Report against the original objective. Use the previously agreed metrics, sources, attribution method, and timing to evaluate what happened.
Optional format for creators using continuous YouTube video
This is a narrow production option, not a requirement for influencer campaigns. If a creator’s plan includes looping uploaded video as a continuous YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service that keeps that stream running without a home computer staying on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. It does not go live from a camera. See StreamNeo for details. The first day is free with no card. To try it, start a StreamNeo account.

Common partnership problems and practical fixes
- The pitch gets no response: make the audience-brand match explicit, tailor the idea to the brand, and include clearly labeled audience and performance information relevant to the proposed campaign.
- The creator has reach but little audience fit: revisit the intended audience and geography, then assess relevance and past content rather than treating reach as sufficient evidence.
- The post feels scripted or off-brand: agree on mandatory facts and prohibited claims, but let the creator use their normal storytelling style within those boundaries.
- Viewers may miss the disclosure: put it close to the endorsement, use plain language, and for video include it in the video itself. Repeat it during livestreams.
- A claim cannot be supported: remove or revise it; the creator should not claim personal experience they lack, and the advertiser should not ask for claims it cannot substantiate.
- Results are disputed after publication: before launch, define the campaign objective, metrics, source of reporting, attribution method, and timing.
- Reuse or paid promotion causes disagreement: specify usage rights, duration, channels, paid amplification, and any exclusivity before the creator produces the work.
