IKEA’s second-hand marketplace launched in the UK on 7 October 2026. It lets IKEA Family members buy and sell pre-owned IKEA products directly with one another. Listings are free, but the marketplace is not IKEA’s Buyback service: Buyback is a separate route where IKEA takes back eligible furniture in exchange for in-store credit.
How IKEA’s UK second-hand marketplace works
The marketplace is a peer-to-peer service: sellers list pre-owned IKEA products, and other IKEA Family members buy them. IKEA says Customer Support reviews listings before they are published. The service covers nearly all current and historic IKEA products, with exceptions for food, mattresses, kitchen appliances and products that are not from IKEA. IKEA says listings are free. Sellers can choose between a bank transfer and an IKEA digital refund card. Choosing the card adds 15% to the payout value; it is an incentive to take IKEA credit, not a cash bonus. The UK page describes these options but does not establish a required listing workflow, so check the live marketplace for the current steps.

These are different ways to pass on used furniture. The marketplace does not mean IKEA will buy any used item: non-IKEA goods are excluded from marketplace listings, and Buyback is limited to eligible IKEA products. Ingka Group says it sourced almost 686,500 used IKEA products through Buyback for resale in FY25; that figure concerns Buyback, not marketplace sales. What buyers should know about protection and pickup
IKEA UK says buyer protection allows a buyer to cancel and receive a refund if an item is misrepresented. That is not a guarantee that every listing or transaction will go smoothly: IKEA also says it cannot guarantee that an advertised item exists, its quality or authenticity, the accuracy of seller listings, or that pickup arrangements will be made. Read the current terms before agreeing to buy.
Pickup is arranged between buyer and seller. IKEA UK points buyers to GoCar van hire as an option for taking purchases home; this does not establish free delivery or an IKEA-arranged delivery service. Agree the collection details directly with the seller before paying, particularly for bulky items.

What IKEA’s launch figures do—and do not—show
Ingka Group reports that its marketplace recorded 15 million visits and 95,700 listings across its first six markets through 31 August 2026. It says 25.5% of users were new or reactivated IKEA Family members. These are figures for those markets collectively, not UK results after launch.

- Ingka says pre-owned IKEA listings can cost an average of 60% less than their new IKEA equivalents. This is a platform-wide average claim, not a promise about any particular listing or a guaranteed saving for UK buyers.
- Ingka cites a 2024 Statista estimate that IKEA products represented 9% of the home-furnishing second-hand market. This is an estimate attributed to Statista via Ingka.
- Ingka describes a TippTapp delivery trial in Portugal and Sweden. It is not evidence that the service is available in the UK.
Those figures provide context for the wider service, but do not establish UK marketplace uptake or a UK environmental impact figure.
