YXSTABY is not a desk. IKEA’s YXSTABY gaming monitor stand sits on top of a desk, so the practical choice is between a conventional desk on its own and a desk with the YXSTABY stand added. If you need a primary work surface, compare desk models and footprints; if you already have a desk and want a raised monitor shelf with accessory storage, check whether the stand fits your surface and monitors.
YXSTABY and a standard desk do different jobs
The YXSTABY item most relevant to a desktop gaming setup is a monitor stand: it raises screens and uses some of the surface of an existing desk. IKEA lists the stand at 98 cm wide, 27 cm deep and 16 cm high, with a maximum shelf load of 20 kg. The 98 × 27 cm footprint sits on the desk, so it takes up surface area rather than adding it. Before buying, measure the available width and depth on your desk, allowing room for the rest of your setup.

IKEA says the stand can accommodate two 24-inch monitors or one larger monitor. Treat that as manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee that every large screen will fit: check the monitor base dimensions and the combined weight against the shelf’s 20 kg maximum. IKEA UK lists the stand’s dimensions, load limit and monitor guidance.
YXSTABY stand vs. MICKE desk
MICKE is one concrete example of a conventional desk. IKEA US lists its white MICKE desk at 55 7/8 × 19 5/8 inches and showed a price of $109.99 when the listing was accessed. That price is specific to the US listing at that time; check your local IKEA listing for current price and availability. The listed measurements come from different regional IKEA pages and use different units. The MICKE desk’s listed depth is 19 5/8 inches, while the YXSTABY stand is 27 cm deep; both need to be checked against your own available space and layout. The stand’s raised shelf also occupies a portion of the desk, leaving the area below available for a keyboard, laptop or other accessories according to IKEA.
Which option fits your setup?
Choose a desk first if you need a work surface
If you are furnishing a room from scratch or replacing a too-small table, choose the desk by the equipment and space it must support. Compare the exact model’s width, depth, storage and configuration; do not treat one MICKE size as representative of all IKEA desks. Then decide whether a monitor riser can fit without crowding your keyboard, mouse or other essentials.

Consider YXSTABY if you already have a desk
The stand is the relevant choice when the desk itself works for you but you want monitors raised, space beneath the shelf, and designated places for small accessories. IKEA frames the height as supporting a comfortable sitting posture; that is the manufacturer’s description, not independent ergonomic evidence. Its cable-management features address accessory and monitor routing, whereas MICKE’s described cable-hiding feature is part of the desk.
Check monitor fit before ordering
- Measure the stand’s 98 cm width against the monitor bases and any side accessories you intend to place on it.
- Check each base’s depth against the 27 cm shelf depth, including any overhang that would make placement unstable.
- Add up the weight resting on the shelf and keep it within IKEA’s stated 20 kg maximum.
- Use IKEA’s two-24-inch-or-one-larger recommendation as guidance, not as a substitute for checking the actual monitors.
