The IKEA GÅTEBO makes the most sense if you need a microwave and want grill and air-fry functions in the same countertop appliance. In Tom’s Guide’s comparison with a dedicated air fryer, it cooked fries more slowly and left them less crisp, so it is not the strongest choice if air-frying is your main priority. For the UK model, IKEA lists a 26 L capacity, 900 W microwave output and a five-year guarantee; model numbers and prices differ by market.
What is the IKEA GÅTEBO?
GÅTEBO is a freestanding combination microwave with microwave, air-fry and grill functions, plus microwave-and-convection combination cooking. IKEA UK lists it as “Microwave oven, air fry function IKEA 500/black,” article number 006.035.19. The US product page identifies its listing as article number 706.035.06. These are market-specific identifiers, so check the local IKEA listing rather than assuming one article number applies everywhere.

IKEA lists an air-fry grid, a microwave grill grid and a rotating glass turntable among the included accessories. The UK listing also specifies ten microwave power levels, defrosting by time or weight, two cooking stages and a child lock. That is a flexible set of functions for one appliance, but the feature list alone does not establish how quickly or evenly it cooks.

For UK model 006.035.19, IKEA’s product page gives a rounded capacity of 26 L and external dimensions of 49.5 × 43.6 × 29.2 cm (width × depth × height). It lists the weight as 16.10 kg and the cord as 1 m. The official manual gives a more precise oven capacity of 26.67 L, a 288 mm turntable and the same external dimensions and net weight. The different capacity figures reflect the product page’s rounding.

The manual specifies maximum microwave output of 900 W, grill power of 1000 W and convection power of 2100 W. Those ratings describe the appliance’s specifications, not a promise that every cooking mode will finish food as quickly as a dedicated device.
How well does it air-fry?
Tom’s Guide compared the GÅTEBO with a Dreo ChefMaker dedicated air fryer in a hands-on test. In that test, fries took 21 minutes in the GÅTEBO—nearly twice as long as in the standalone fryer—and came out less crisp and browned. The result is useful evidence about that comparison, but it is not a lab-wide finding or a guarantee for every recipe, batch size or air fryer.
The same reviewer cooked chicken skewers and reported that the GÅTEBO took twice as long to cook them through as the dedicated fryer. The chicken was juicy, and cleanup was manageable after some juice dripped onto the glass plate. Taken together, those trials suggest a practical compromise: the GÅTEBO can air-fry, but speed and crispness were weaker than the dedicated appliance in the foods tested.

In an earlier first-impressions piece, Tom’s Guide described reheating pasta in four minutes and soup in three minutes and 30 seconds. The reviewer’s grilled cheese took six minutes; it was toasted but drier than a stovetop version. These are anecdotal timings from the reviewer’s own examples, not standardized performance benchmarks. That initial coverage was explicitly preliminary.
The examples suggest that GÅTEBO can handle ordinary reheating and grill a simple snack, while the grilled-cheese result points to a possible texture trade-off. They are not enough to establish how it performs across different foods, portions or microwave settings.
What do independent reviews establish?
Which? lists the UK model as a freestanding combi turntable microwave and records its first review in February 2026. Its page describes lab categories such as heating speed, evenness and food quality, but gates the score and detailed findings; those results are not available here.
Altroconsumo’s Italian page covers article number 005.976.55, listing 26 L capacity, 900 W microwave power and dimensions of 495 × 436 × 292 mm. Its visible expert summary calls overall quality moderate and below the category average, but does not expose the detailed test results. That summary cannot explain which aspects drove the assessment, and the Italian article number should not be assumed to identify every market variant.

What does it cost, and what is the warranty?
When accessed in 2026, IKEA’s UK listing showed £149 and a five-year guarantee, alongside a customer rating of 2.7/5 from 11 reviews. IKEA’s US listing showed $199 and a rating of 5/5 from 3 reviews. These are separate, time-sensitive market listings with small and different review samples—not a like-for-like price or quality comparison. Check your local listing for current price, availability, article number and guarantee terms.
Who should buy the GÅTEBO?
It fits buyers who want one appliance to do several jobs
If you already need a microwave and value having grill and air-fry modes without adding another countertop appliance, the GÅTEBO’s combination of functions may justify its footprint. The included grids and turntable provide the listed accessories for those modes, while the 49.5 × 43.6 cm UK-model width and depth are worth measuring against your available counter space.
A dedicated fryer is a better fit for air-frying first
If your main goal is fast fries with a crisp finish, the specific Tom’s Guide comparison favors the dedicated fryer it tested. The GÅTEBO’s air-fry function may be useful as an occasional option, but the reported test does not support treating it as an equal-speed, equal-crispness replacement.
Consider the evidence in proportion
The available hands-on comparison covers fries and chicken skewers, while the early microwave and grill examples come from preliminary first impressions. They offer concrete observations, not comprehensive testing across recipes. Which?’s detailed results are gated, and Altroconsumo’s visible summary lacks the underlying test detail, so neither supplies a fully inspectable performance breakdown.
Repair and parts availability
The IKEA manual states that certain parts are to be available to professional repairers for at least seven years after the last unit of the model is placed on the market: thermostats, temperature sensors, printed circuit boards and light sources. It gives a minimum of seven years for handles, hinges, trays and baskets, available to professional repairers and end users, and at least ten years for door gaskets. These are the manual’s stated availability periods; they do not guarantee that a particular part is immediately in stock in every country.
