igfxpph.dll is a legitimate Intel graphics-driver component, not a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. When igfxpph.dll is missing, corrupted, or cannot be loaded, reinstall the matching Intel graphics package instead of downloading a loose DLL.
The file is identified as “igfxpph Module” and belongs to Intel(R) Common User Interface, published by Intel Corporation. Intel documentation also describes it as the GraphicsShellExt COM shell extension used by Windows Explorer. That is why some failures appear when you open Explorer menus or file dialogs rather than when you start a particular game.

A 32-bit copy may be associated with:
C:WindowsSysWOW64igfxpph.dll
Despite its name, System32 is the native 64-bit system directory on 64-bit Windows. SysWOW64 contains many 32-bit system files. A 32-bit application cannot load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit application cannot load a 32-bit DLL.
First identify the exact failure
Before changing files, record the complete message and the path shown in it. Common variants include:
- “The program can’t start because igfxpph.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because igfxpph.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading igfxpph.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The file igfxpph.dll is missing or corrupted.”
C:WindowsSystem32igfxpph.dllis either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error, with status0xc000007b.
The wording helps separate several problems:
- If a game or application names the file, repair that application after repairing the graphics driver.
- If Explorer, a file dialog, or a right-click menu crashes, the Intel shell extension may be damaged or incompatible.
- If the message names
System32orSysWOW64, check architecture and file integrity. - If the error began after an update, driver removal, antivirus action, or cleanup operation, restore the Intel driver package before trying unrelated runtimes.
A “not designed to run” message with 0xc000007b commonly indicates a damaged, incompatible, or wrongly architected module. The path and the bitness of the calling program still need to be checked.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Intel graphics driver
This is the main repair. igfxpph.dll ships with Intel graphics software, so replacing the complete driver package is safer than copying the file alone.
Step 1: Identify the graphics device
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Write down the complete Intel graphics model.
- Double-click the Intel device and open the Driver tab.
- Note the Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version.
If Display adapters shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, the Intel graphics driver is missing or not currently working.
Step 2: Check Windows Update
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Advanced options.
- Open Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if the section is available.
- Select the Intel display-driver update.
- Click Download and install.
- Restart Windows.
Windows Update may not offer the newest or most customized package for every computer. If no Intel driver appears, continue with the computer manufacturer’s support package.
Step 3: Prefer the computer manufacturer’s driver
For a laptop or branded desktop, open the manufacturer’s official support page and search by the exact model or service tag. Download the Intel graphics driver listed for your Windows version and architecture.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThis matters because OEM graphics packages can include display switching, power-management, hotkey, docking, and screen-output customizations. A generic Intel driver can work, but the OEM package is normally the safer first choice.
Install it as follows:
- Close games and graphics applications.
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Accept the license terms.
- Choose the default installation or repair option.
- Allow the installer to finish.
- Restart the computer even if it does not require an immediate restart.
- Return to Device Manager → Display adapters.
- Double-click the Intel device and confirm that the driver is listed without a warning icon.
If the installer refuses to run, confirm that the package matches the Intel GPU, Windows release, and 32-bit or 64-bit architecture. Do not force a driver for a different Intel graphics model.
Manually hunting through OEM pages and comparing several driver packages is tedious, particularly after a clean Windows installation. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for the relevant driver problem; its free scan shows what it finds, while the full version handles the driver installation. The OEM driver remains the preferred choice when the computer manufacturer provides a customized package.
Step 4: Use Intel’s official package when an OEM package is unavailable
If the manufacturer no longer provides a suitable driver, use Intel’s official Driver & Support Assistant or Download Center. Search for the exact processor or graphics model, select the correct Windows architecture, and install the recommended package.

An old package containing a similar file name is not proof that it contains your exact reported version. Match the package to the device rather than selecting it because its file list mentions igfxpph.dll.
After installation, verify:
- Device Manager shows the Intel graphics device.
- The device has no yellow warning icon.
- The Driver tab shows Intel as the provider when appropriate.
- Explorer menus and the affected application open normally.
- The original error does not return after another restart.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the affected application
If only one game or application reports igfxpph.dll, the program may have damaged files or an incorrect private copy. Some applications search their own installation folder before Windows system locations.

- Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.

For a game launcher
Use the launcher’s built-in file verification option. In Epic Games Launcher:
- Open Library.
- Find the game.
- Select the three dots beside it.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Wait for the scan and replacement process to finish.
- Restart the launcher and test the game.
Other launchers use names such as Verify integrity, Repair, or Scan and repair. The purpose is the same: restore the application’s own files without taking a DLL from an unknown source.
If verification reports repeated failures, uninstall the application, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the developer’s official installer or launcher. Reinstalling the application is the definitive repair when its private installation is damaged.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine a driver file after an update or during a scan. Do not immediately disable antivirus protection or approve every detection.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open a detection involving
igfxpph.dll. - Check the original path and detection details.
- Restore or allow the file only if the path belongs to the expected Intel driver installation and the file comes from a legitimate driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Intel graphics driver if the file is restored but the error continues.
A copy under an Intel driver or Windows system path is less concerning than an identically named file in a temporary folder, a user-writable folder, or an unrelated application directory. Confirm the publisher and source before allowing anything. Microsoft warns that allowing a detected file can expose the computer if the detection is genuine.
If protection history identifies malware rather than a driver issue, leave the file quarantined and complete the recommended security scan. Do not restore it merely because an application displays a missing-file message.
Fix 4: Check the file path, architecture, and private copies
A missing-file message does not always mean the file is absent. Windows may be finding the wrong architecture, a broken dependency, or a private copy in the application directory.
Check whether the system copy exists
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to
C:WindowsSystem32. - Search for
igfxpph.dll. - If Windows is 64-bit, also check
C:WindowsSysWOW64. - Right-click any matching file and select Properties.
- Check the Details tab for the description and publisher.
- Check Digital Signatures if the tab is available.
Do not assume a file is safe solely because it has the correct name. The path, signature, publisher, and driver origin all matter.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check the application folder
If the error names a game or application, inspect its installation directory for a separate igfxpph.dll. A damaged private copy can override the correct system component. Use the application’s verify or repair function rather than deleting files at random.
If the application is 32-bit on 64-bit Windows, it may need the 32-bit Intel component. If it is 64-bit, it needs the 64-bit component. Installing the wrong architecture will not solve the loading error.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
igfxpph.dll is an Intel driver component, so DISM and SFC are not the primary repair. Use them when Windows has broader corruption, multiple system errors, failed updates, or damaged protected components.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Intel graphics driver if
igfxpph.dllis still missing.
Possible SFC results include:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: no protected Windows corruption was found.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: repeat the driver repair and investigate the DISM or SFC log before escalating.
These commands do not make a random downloaded DLL trustworthy, and they do not replace the Intel driver installer.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which component changed can make troubleshooting circular. Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show the Windows problems it identifies; its free scan shows the findings, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and an Intel driver reinstall remains the direct fix for this file.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent driver change
System Restore can help if the error began immediately after a graphics-driver update, Windows update, cleanup operation, or other system change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the drivers and applications that may be changed.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the process.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can change drivers, applications, and system settings. If no suitable restore point exists, return to the Intel driver repair path.
On Windows 11, if Windows itself remains broadly damaged, Settings → System → Recovery → Fix problems using Windows Update → Reinstall now can reinstall the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings when the option is available. Back up important data before using any recovery feature.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When regsvr32 applies
regsvr32 is not a universal missing-DLL fix. It is relevant here only because Intel documents igfxpph.dll as a COM shell extension.
Use it when:
- The file exists in the expected Intel or Windows location.
- Explorer or a file dialog is failing.
- The driver installation completed.
- The problem appears to be missing shell-extension registration.
For a native 64-bit copy, open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
%windir%System32regsvr32.exe "%windir%System32igfxpph.dll"
Restart Windows and test Explorer.

%windir%System32regsvr32.exe /u "%windir%System32igfxpph.dll"
For a 32-bit copy on 64-bit Windows, use the 32-bit registration tool with the 32-bit file:
%windir%SysWOW64regsvr32.exe "%windir%SysWOW64igfxpph.dll"
Do not register a 32-bit DLL with the 64-bit tool or the reverse. A registration error can indicate that the file is the wrong architecture, lacks a dependency, is damaged, or is not a self-registering COM library.
regsvr32 cannot recreate a missing file, repair a bad driver package, restore dependencies, or fix a Visual C++ installation. If the file is absent, reinstall the Intel graphics driver.

What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, an altered file, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file with missing dependencies. Even a genuine-looking copy may not include the Intel driver registration and supporting files that Windows expects.
Do not copy an unknown file into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Do not copy it into a game folder merely to silence the message. Use the computer manufacturer’s driver package, Intel’s official graphics package, Windows Update, or the affected application’s official installer.
Do not reinstall Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET automatically
igfxpph.dll is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET framework file. Repair those runtimes only when the error names a file belonging to that runtime. Installing them will not normally restore an Intel graphics shell extension.
Do not delete the file to stop Explorer crashes
Deleting igfxpph.dll may hide one shell-extension failure while removing Intel graphics functionality or creating additional errors. Reinstall the matching driver, then investigate registration or compatibility if Explorer still crashes.
Do not force a driver for a different model
A driver that installs successfully can still be wrong for the computer. Confirm the Intel GPU, Windows version, and architecture before installation.

FAQ
Is igfxpph.dll safe?
It can be legitimate when it is installed by an Intel graphics driver and has the expected Intel identity and path. A copy with the same name in an unrelated or user-writable folder deserves investigation.
Is igfxpph.dll part of Windows?
It is not an inbox Windows DLL merely because an older Intel driver may place it under C:WindowsSystem32. It belongs to Intel(R) Common User Interface and is supplied with Intel graphics software.
Does igfxpph.dll belong to Visual C++?
No. Reinstall Visual C++ only when the error names a Visual C++ runtime file. For igfxpph.dll, repair the Intel graphics driver first.
Why does the error mention Explorer?
Intel registers the file as the GraphicsShellExt COM shell extension. Explorer loads shell extensions for context menus, file dialogs, and related interface features. A damaged registration or incompatible driver can therefore appear as an Explorer problem.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I download the reported version 8.15.10.4459?
No. That version is reported in system inventories, but it is not a universal requirement or proof of the latest Intel release. Install the driver package matched to your computer and Intel graphics model.
Why does regsvr32 say the module could not be loaded?
The file may be missing, the path may be wrong, the architecture may not match, or a dependency may be damaged. Confirm the 32-bit versus 64-bit tool and file, then reinstall the Intel graphics driver.
What if every fix fails?
Collect the exact error, named path, Windows version, Intel GPU model, computer manufacturer and model, file properties, digital-signature details, and the event that preceded the failure. That information distinguishes a driver problem from an application copy, antivirus quarantine, architecture mismatch, or wider Windows corruption.
