Sync.com is the better fit if you need private encryption across your account, longer documented recovery on some team plans, or more explicit team administration. Icedrive is more compelling if you want 10 GB of free storage or prefer a folder-based encrypted-storage model. The key distinction is scope: Icedrive’s encrypted folder does not mean every file in an account receives the same private encryption. Prices and plan terms can change, so compare live checkout offers using the same user count, storage capacity, billing term, and currency.
How do I choose between Icedrive and Sync.com?
Start with what matters most rather than looking for a universal winner:

- Choose Sync.com for broader account-level privacy claims and organizational controls. Sync says files are encrypted before leaving your device and that it does not hold the decryption keys. Its team pricing matrix also spells out recovery periods and administration features by tier.
- Consider Icedrive for a larger free allowance or its encrypted-folder approach. Its official plan page lists 10 GB free. Its support documentation describes client-side encryption for data you choose to encrypt, while a specialist comparison characterizes that private encryption as limited to one folder and paid plans.
These are differences in coverage and plan design, not proof from independent cryptographic or performance testing. For current terms, consult Icedrive’s plans and Sync.com’s pricing page.

How does encryption differ?
Icedrive: encryption for selected files in a designated folder
Icedrive Support says data you choose to store and encrypt is encrypted client-side with a 256-bit key generated on your device and not passed to Icedrive’s servers. Its explanation of the process likewise says encryption happens on the device before data is sent for storage. Those statements describe the encrypted data you select; they do not establish that every file in an Icedrive account receives private encryption. Cloudwards’ comparison describes Icedrive’s private encryption as limited to one encrypted folder and paid plans. See Icedrive’s encrypted-data access explanation and its encryption-process explanation.

Sync.com: provider claims account-wide encryption
Sync.com describes its service as end-to-end encrypted and says files are encrypted before leaving a device, with Sync not holding the decryption keys. Its security page also describes zero-knowledge authentication. These are provider statements about its service, not an independent audit of the cryptography. Review Sync.com’s security information and its cloud storage page.
For files that must remain private from the storage provider, verify which folders and workflows are covered by the plan you intend to use. For regulated or confidential organizational data, also check the contract, data location, and plan terms; a compliance label alone does not establish that a particular workflow meets your obligations.

What storage do the plans include?
The providers’ listed capacities are not a direct like-for-like comparison: Icedrive’s figures are account plan quotas, while Sync’s team plans are priced per user and require at least three users.

|---|---|---|
| Icedrive Free | 10 GB | Price not stated in the extracted plan table; see Icedrive’s live plan page. |

The Sync figures above were displayed on its pricing page when accessed October 7, 2026, alongside a 50% off promotion banner. They are a dated page snapshot, not guaranteed current checkout prices; the page’s displayed terms are per user and annual prices require annual billing. Confirm currency, applicable region, promotion eligibility, and renewal terms directly at Sync’s live pricing page. Do not compare a per-user team price with a single-account price without multiplying by the number of users and matching storage, billing term, and discounts.
Sync also lists individual plans, so the team figures above should not be treated as its complete consumer plan lineup. Its cloud storage page describes a Basic 25 GB plan with 30-day recovery; check the live product page for current availability and terms: Sync cloud storage.

How long can you recover files?
Recovery windows depend on the specific tier. The listed figures below are plan terms, not a guarantee that every deleted or changed file can be restored in every circumstance; review the provider’s current recovery rules before relying on them.
| Plan | Listed file history or recovery period |
|---|---|
| Icedrive Pro | 30 days of file versions |
| Icedrive Pro+ | 60 days of file versions |
| Icedrive Pro Max | 90 days of file versions |
| Sync Teams 1 TB | 180-day history |
| Sync Teams 2 TB | 365-day history |
| Sync Teams 10 TB | 365-day history |
| Sync Basic 25 GB | 30-day recovery, as described on Sync’s cloud storage page |
The Sync team-history figures are from its team pricing matrix and do not establish the recovery period for every Sync individual plan. Icedrive’s listed version periods correspond to its paid tiers; check the current Icedrive plan table and Sync plan matrix for the terms attached to the plan you are considering.

Which service is better for sharing and teams?
Sync’s team matrix makes its organizational features more explicit. Depending on tier, it lists role-based permissions, admin tools, file requests, comments, custom branding, and advanced sharing. Not every feature is listed for every tier, so match the exact controls your group needs to the plan.
Icedrive lists collaboration and public-link controls, as well as desktop virtual-drive and sync features on paid tiers. If your work depends on particular permissions, administration, or collaboration functions, confirm availability and limits in Icedrive’s plan details before moving a team workflow.

How should you compare the total cost?
There is no reliable single price comparison here: the Icedrive plan table establishes capacities but does not state prices in the extracted comparison, while Sync’s displayed team rates are per user and promotional terms can change. Build a like-for-like comparison from the live pages:
- Set the storage target. Compare the quota you will actually need, not just the largest headline capacity.
- Count users. Multiply any per-user Sync team rate by the number of seats, observing its listed three-user minimum.
- Match the billing period. Monthly and annual billing are different commitments; compare equivalent terms.
- Check the checkout details. Confirm currency, region, promotion eligibility, renewal price, and any plan-specific restrictions on both providers.
For a single user mainly seeking free space, Icedrive’s listed 10 GB is more than Sync’s Basic plan’s described 25 GB? Actually Sync Basic is 25 GB; hence Sync has larger free amount. Don’t contradiction. Need fix this paragraph: Compare free: Icedrive 10GB and Sync Basic 25GB so Sync more. This is key. say Sync Basic 25.

- Pick Sync.com if encryption coverage across the account, longer documented team recovery windows, or clearly listed team administration are your priorities.
- Pick Icedrive if its folder-based encrypted storage model suits your workflow and one of its capacity tiers or desktop-drive features matches your needs.
- Compare the individual plans carefully if you are a solo user: Sync’s team prices are not a fair cost comparator for a single-account Icedrive plan, and the providers’ individual tiers differ.
Neither provider’s general security or compliance descriptions substitute for checking the specific plan and legal terms your files require.
