Short answer: i-Ready processes student account details, learning activity and some technical information so schools can provide assessment and instruction. Curriculum Associates says schools control student records, it does not sell student data or use it for advertising, and it uses safeguards and restricted service providers. Those are the company’s statements, not a guarantee of zero risk or independent proof of its controls. To find out what applies to your child, ask the school or district about its i-Ready setup and data practices.

The platform covers assessment, personalized instruction, curriculum, reporting and related educator products; the components and settings in use can differ by school or district.

What information does i-Ready collect about my child?
Curriculum Associates describes “Student Data” as personal information processed on a school’s behalf. It can include information supplied by a school, parent or student, as well as information generated through a student’s use of the platform. The company says schools provide account information to create accounts, authenticate access, associate students with content, assign assessments, generate academic reports, and support administration and compliance.
School-provided information
Examples in the company’s FAQ include a student’s name, date of birth, grade, school and student ID. Depending on the school’s choices, data may also include a school email address for single sign-on or demographic and program information, such as English learner status, disability status or free- and reduced-price lunch eligibility.

Information generated during use
The examples include assessment results, lesson progress, student responses, time spent, logins and feature use, plus limited device and browser information. The policy describes additional collection categories for particular features, so this list is not exhaustive for every configuration.
These examples do not mean every school sends every field. The policy says most information is supplied at the school’s discretion and is not required to use i-Ready. Ask your district which products it uses and which fields it provides.
Does i-Ready sell student data or use it for advertising?
Curriculum Associates says it does not sell student data and does not use it for advertising or commercial profiles. Its FAQ states, “We do not sell student data—ever.” That is the company’s representation; it should not be mistaken for an independent audit finding.

The company also says school-authorized service providers are subject to confidentiality and security obligations. For the providers and settings applicable to your child, the school or district is the place to ask, since the agreement and platform configuration can vary.
Does i-Ready send student data to Google?
Curriculum Associates says Google Analytics 4 is used in the student dashboard as a service provider. The company says identifiers transmitted for analytics are internal UUIDs, are not meaningful outside its systems, and cannot be used by Google to identify an individual student. It also says Google may process analytics data only to provide the service.
So it would be inaccurate to say that no data is processed by Google: the company acknowledges analytics processing. It disputes that the identifiers involved identify an individual student to Google. Families who want to know what analytics are enabled under their child’s school agreement should ask the district.

Can I see or delete my child’s i-Ready data?
Curriculum Associates says the school customer remains the owner of Student Data and controls its use and maintenance when the company operates the platform for the school. The policy describes the company as acting as a FERPA “School Official” with an educational interest, and as a COPPA service provider or operator; school agreements govern processing.
The policy says parents and eligible students can request a description of the categories of personal information collected, deletion of the student’s personal information, or cessation of collection. It directs parents to contact the student’s school. Curriculum Associates says it does not act on a parent’s direct deletion request unless the school directs it to do so, and that deleting information integral to the service could cause the student to lose access.

- Which analytics or other service providers are enabled under the district’s agreement?
- How can I inspect or correct my child’s record?
- What process does the district use for a deletion request or a request to stop collection?
District procedures can differ. The U.S. Department of Education’s Student Privacy Policy Office provides general FERPA guidance and parent-facing student privacy resources.

The privacy policy says Curriculum Associates maintains administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect confidentiality, integrity and security. It also says the platform is hosted in U.S. Tier 1 data centers and school customer data is not stored outside the United States.

What is the i-Ready privacy lawsuit about?
A putative class action filed by K–12 plaintiffs on December 22, 2025, alleges that Curriculum Associates generated, collected, used and shared information without proper consent. Among other theories, plaintiffs allege that student interaction data was sent to outside services without adequate consent. These are allegations, not established facts.
Curriculum Associates disputes the characterization and says its analytics identifiers are not personally identifying to Google. The company is defending the case. A legal update published October 5, 2026, reports that a federal judge’s September 30 ruling allowed some claims concerning alleged sharing with Google to proceed. That is a procedural decision, not a trial finding that the alleged conduct occurred or violated the law; the update is a secondary report, and the underlying order is not available in the cited materials.
The case tracker records the company’s motion to dismiss on February 27, 2026, and plaintiffs’ opposition on April 3, 2026. The materials reviewed do not establish a final court finding on the merits.
