1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYes, you can use Brave for YouTube and keep YouTube Premium. Brave offers browser-side features that overlap with some Premium benefits, including ad blocking and background playback, but it does not provide the full Premium bundle. I prefer Brave for watching in a browser; Premium still matters for downloads, YouTube Music, supported YouTube apps, and creator support.
Can I use Brave for YouTube and keep Premium?
Yes. Brave is a browser, while YouTube Premium is a membership tied to your Google account. You can sign in to YouTube in Brave and retain your membership. YouTube also documents Premium background playback in mobile browsers, subject to restrictions, so keeping Premium may provide browser-related benefits too: YouTube’s mobile-browser background-play help.

The practical distinction is that Brave changes how you access YouTube; Premium changes which membership benefits are available to your account. They can overlap without being interchangeable.

Brave says its browser blocks YouTube ads and trackers and offers picture-in-picture and background playback with lock-screen controls. Brave’s article on YouTube ad blocking, picture-in-picture and background playback says the improvements apply to Brave version 1.87 and later. These are Brave’s product claims, and browser or YouTube changes may affect how features work: Brave’s YouTube feature article and Brave’s feature overview.
#1 Best Overall
- JBL Deep Bass Sound: Get the most from your mixes with high-quality audio from secure, reliable earbuds with 8mm drivers featuring JBL Deep Bass Sound
- Comfortable fit: The ergonomic, stick-closed design of the JBL Vibe Beam fits so comfortably you may forget you're wearing them. The closed design excludes external sounds, enhancing the bass performance
- Up to 32 (8h + 24h) hours of battery life and speed charging: With 8 hours of battery life in the earbuds and 24 in the case, the JBL Vibe Beam provide all-day audio. When you need more power, you can speed charge an extra two hours in just 10 minutes.
- Hands-free calls with VoiceAware: When you're making hands-free stereo calls on the go, VoiceAware lets you balance how much of your own voice you hear while talking with others
- Water and dust resistant: From the beach to the bike trail, the IP54-certified earbuds and IPX2 charging case are water and dust resistant for all-day experiences
Those features can make Brave a useful alternative to the YouTube app for browser-based viewing. They do not establish that Brave reproduces every Premium benefit or behaves identically across devices.
Brave Playlist is a separate, platform-limited option
Brave Playlist can collect compatible media for background or offline playback. Brave Help describes Playlist availability on iOS and desktop Nightly; Brave’s product page specifies iPhone and iPad support on iOS 15 and later. DRM-protected media is unsupported, and Playlist media cannot be exported to another device. See Brave Help’s Playlist instructions and Brave Playlist. These limitations mean Playlist is not a general replacement for YouTube Premium downloads.

What do I still get with YouTube Premium?
YouTube lists ad-free videos, downloads, background playback and YouTube Music benefits for Premium members. The membership benefits apply in supported YouTube apps and devices, not just in one browser. YouTube-served ads are removed, but creator-integrated sponsorships and promotions may still appear in videos. Full details and qualifications are in YouTube’s Premium benefits guide.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Downloads are not the same as background playback
YouTube documents background play in the YouTube, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids mobile apps for signed-in Premium members where available; Shorts are excluded. Downloads are a separate benefit through the YouTube and YouTube Music apps, subject to content and availability limits. Downloads are account- and app-bound: offline playback may require reconnecting, and a video that is no longer available can be removed at a later sync. See YouTube’s download help.

Premium also includes YouTube Music benefits
Brave’s browser features are not a YouTube Music Premium membership. If you use YouTube Music’s membership benefits or want Premium features in supported YouTube apps, those remain reasons to keep the subscription even if Brave is your preferred way to watch videos.
Brave versus Premium: where the benefits differ
| What matters | Brave | YouTube Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Ads | Brave says it blocks YouTube ads in its browser; this is a browser feature. | Removes YouTube-served ads across supported YouTube devices and platforms. Creator-integrated sponsorships and promotions may remain. |
| Background playback | Brave lists background playback and lock-screen controls; Brave’s version 1.87+ article describes the feature. | Available in the YouTube, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids mobile apps where available for signed-in members; Shorts are excluded. YouTube also documents mobile-browser background playback with Premium, subject to restrictions. |
| Offline playback | Brave Playlist supports compatible media on iOS and desktop Nightly; DRM-protected media is unsupported, and Playlist media cannot be exported. | Downloads are available through the YouTube and YouTube Music apps, subject to content and availability limits and account/app restrictions. |
| Music membership | Brave does not include YouTube Music Premium. | YouTube Music benefits are part of the Premium bundle. |
| Creator support | No YouTube Premium membership fee is paid through Brave itself. | YouTube says it shares Premium membership fees with creators; it does not state a payout percentage on the cited page. |
Is Premium Lite enough?
Premium Lite is a narrower plan, not the same bundle as Premium. YouTube says it is offered only in listed locations. Ads may still appear on music content, Shorts, and during search or browsing. Downloads and background play apply to most videos but exclude Shorts and specified music-related material; Lite does not include YouTube Music Premium and omits other Premium features. Check YouTube’s Premium Lite page for current local availability and terms. No price is included here because the reader’s location and current plan pricing are not established.

Why keep the subscription if Brave handles everyday viewing?
For me, Brave is a better fit for browser-based YouTube, but that preference is not a claim that it is faster or lighter on every device. Premium remains useful for the benefits Brave does not bundle: YouTube Music, eligible app downloads and background play, and Premium access across supported devices.
There is also a documented creator-support reason. YouTube says Premium fees are shared with creators and that watching more from a favorite creator contributes more to that creator. The company does not publish a payout amount or percentage on its creator-support explanation.

How to choose between Brave and Premium
- Use Brave for browser-based viewing if its ad blocking, picture-in-picture or background-play features meet your needs.
- Keep Premium if you rely on YouTube Music, offline downloads in YouTube’s apps, or membership benefits across supported apps and devices.
- Consider Premium Lite only after checking whether its local availability and exclusions fit how you watch; it does not include YouTube Music Premium.
- Do not assume Brave Playlist will save every YouTube video: it is limited by platform, compatible media and DRM restrictions.
