Its builder, Divya, describes a two-part workflow: add and learn new cards in “Learn,” then revisit scheduled cards in “Revise.” The app’s spaced-repetition schedule is intended to organize practice; the project write-up does not establish that it improves retention.
What EchoCadence is designed to do
Divya describes EchoCadence as a spaced-repetition vocabulary app for words users add themselves. The idea is familiar: you come across a word, look it up, and later recognize that you have seen it without being able to recall or use it. Rather than starting from a fixed course, the learner builds a personal collection of vocabulary.

The project write-up says users can sign up with Google or email and work with up to seven languages at once. They can organize words using built-in categories or create custom categories and fields. These are descriptions from the builder, not independently verified details of the currently deployed app.
How the Learn and Revise workflow works
Learn: add and check new words
In Learn, the user adds a word to a card, flips it to check the answer, and rates how difficult the recall felt. The rating becomes part of that card’s review history and informs its future schedule, according to Divya.

Revise: return to cards that are due
Revise is for cards whose next review time has arrived. Divya says the app uses each card’s prior reviews to determine when it should appear again, rather than asking the learner to review every saved word on every session. The write-up describes tracking weekly review statistics, difficulty, next review dates, and first-attempt performance.
What “SM-2-style” scheduling means here
Divya characterizes the scheduler as SM-2 style. In the implementation she describes, each card retains state such as an ease factor and review interval; the learner’s difficulty rating affects the next interval. Difficult cards are scheduled sooner, while easier cards can move to longer intervals.
This describes how the app is intended to schedule practice, not evidence that its schedule produces better learning. The project write-up reports no measured retention results, learning-outcome statistics, or comparison against other vocabulary apps.

Divya says she built EchoCadence solo during MLH Global Hack Week: Data, using Tiger Cloud for a managed PostgreSQL environment with TimescaleDB capabilities. The app records individual card reviews—including timestamps and review-related attributes—in a card_reviews table converted to a TimescaleDB hypertable.

For summarized activity, the project write-up describes a daily continuous aggregate named daily_review_stats. It groups review counts, correct and incorrect responses, average response time, and average rating into daily user summaries. Divya explains the fit this way: “I didn’t have to force my application into a time-series database. I found a part of the application that was already time-series data.”
The write-up also says Auth0 handles authentication and session persistence. These are the builder’s descriptions of the architecture; they are not an independent security or implementation audit.
