The creator behind this project says that frustration led them to build more than 35 browser-side tools. The idea is simple: when a tool can do its work in your browser, your input may not need to leave your device. But “processed locally” is not the same as “the site makes no network requests” or “the service is private.”
What browser-side processing changes
A browser-side tool performs its main transformation on your device rather than sending the input to a remote processing server. A related first-person post about a privacy-focused tool suite describes examples including PDF markup, HEIC-to-JPEG conversion, and file transfer. Those are examples from that post; the available evidence does not establish that it describes this exact project or verify its advertised count of 35-plus tools.

If an implementation genuinely processes a selected file entirely in the browser, the file need not be uploaded to a processing server for that task. That can reduce the amount of user data a service receives. It does not automatically mean that every part of the page runs offline or that no information reaches other services.
Local processing is not a complete privacy guarantee
A page can handle a file locally while still loading scripts, analytics, or other resources from the network. MDN cautions that a third-party script included directly in a page may access that page’s scripts and data. Its guidance is to audit the resources a page loads, the requests they make, who receives the data, and the relevant privacy policies: MDN’s third-party JavaScript guidance.

That distinction matters when assessing any browser tool: ask both where the input is processed and what else the page communicates. The first-person post associated with this topic also acknowledges that some functions may need a server, and says their data flows and retention should be explained. Neither a local-processing label nor a static-page design is an independent audit of a particular tool.
What to check before using a browser tool
- Whether the input is transmitted: Look for a clear explanation of whether the selected file or its contents leave your device, especially for functions that may rely on a server.
- Which other services run: Review the page’s third-party scripts and network requests. Local file handling alone does not establish that those requests are harmless or absent.
- Whether it works offline: A browser may do the processing locally but still need an internet connection to load the page or its resources. Do not infer offline support from a claim of local processing.
- Device limits: With no remote processor doing the work, performance and practical file-size limits depend on the user’s device and browser. The available evidence does not provide measured limits for this collection.
- Storage and access: Find out whether results or settings persist, and whether you can use them on another device. Browser storage can be limited or cleared, and local data does not automatically follow you across devices, as web.dev’s overview of web storage explains.
- Recovery and encryption: If a service stores data across devices, client-side encryption may let it hold ciphertext without reading the content. This still requires trusting the client code delivered by the site; if you alone hold the encryption key and lose it, the data may be unrecoverable. See web.dev’s discussion of web cryptography.
Browser storage and private browsing have limits
Keeping data in the browser changes who can access it and how easily you can retrieve it; it does not guarantee permanent storage. Browser storage may be limited or cleared, and it generally does not provide seamless access across devices. The W3C’s Web Platform Design Principles say storage created in private browsing should not persist after that private-browsing session ends. They also recommend considering a clear user action for APIs that can expose user data or trigger powerful behavior. These are standards principles, not a promise that every browser and tool behaves identically: W3C Web Platform Design Principles.

What the 35-plus claim establishes—and what it doesn’t
The “35+” figure comes from the title and creator’s account, not an independently verified inventory or third-party statistic. A related first-person post describes the motivation of avoiding file uploads and gives examples of browser-based tools, but the available evidence does not confirm that it is the same project. The examples help explain the approach; they do not verify the exact collection, its implementation, or the data practices of every tool.
