Hulu error code P-DEV318 points to a connection problem between your device and Hulu, but it does not identify one specific cause. The issue may be with Hulu’s service, your internet connection, or the app or device. Check how widely the problem occurs first, then work through network and app checks before contacting support.
First, find out how widespread the problem is
- Try another internet-connected app on the same device. If it also cannot connect, check your home network before changing Hulu settings.
- Try Hulu on another device using the same network, if available. If Hulu fails across devices while other services work, a Hulu-side or Hulu-specific problem becomes more plausible.
- Check for reports of a Hulu interruption. Outage trackers reflect user reports, not authoritative confirmation from Hulu. If a broader interruption appears likely, wait and retry rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.
P-DEV318 alone cannot tell you whether the cause is Hulu, the network, or the device. These comparisons help narrow down where to look.

Check the internet connection
If other apps or devices on the same connection are having trouble too, restart your router according to its manufacturer’s instructions. A restart may help with a local connection issue; do not factory-reset the router as a troubleshooting shortcut. If the connection remains impaired, contact your internet service provider.

If both your streaming device and router have Ethernet ports, temporarily connect them by cable and try Hulu again. This optional comparison can help identify a Wi-Fi problem. It will not resolve a Hulu service interruption, an app fault, or a wider ISP issue, and you do not need to buy equipment just to try the other steps.

Restart and update Hulu and your device
- Close Hulu fully and reopen it. If the error remains, restart the streaming device and launch Hulu again.
- Check for a Hulu app update. Look in the app store or update area for your device.
- Check for a device software update. Use the device’s settings to look for an operating-system or firmware update.
The exact menus and update availability depend on the device. Hulu’s official app-update instructions cover platforms including Android, Apple TV, Fire TV, iPhone and iPad, Chromecast, and LG TV.
Check whether the problem affects one title or everything
If the error appears while playing a particular show, movie, or Cloud DVR recording, try a different title or recording. A failure limited to one item may not point to a general connection problem. Hulu’s general Cloud DVR troubleshooting guidance also suggests checking the internet connection, closing background apps, updating the app, and clearing cache or data where supported. Those are general playback suggestions, not confirmed fixes for P-DEV318 specifically.

Reset the app only if simpler checks fail
On Android, secondary guidance for P-DEV318 suggests clearing Hulu’s cache or storage, then reinstalling the app if needed. The available controls and menu names vary by Android version and device. Do not apply Android instructions to iPhone, a television, or a browser. Reinstalling can require you to sign in again, so use it only after the less disruptive checks.

- Contact Hulu if P-DEV318 continues after you have checked the connection, restarted the device and app, and checked for updates. Include your device type and model, whether all titles or just one are affected, whether other apps work, and which steps you have tried.
- Contact your ISP if multiple online services are failing on your connection, or if Hulu works using another connection but not your usual one.
