Huawei calls it the world’s thinnest tablet over 13 inches; the available sources do not establish that as an independently verified category ranking. It is a compelling option for drawing, media and large-screen work if its software fits your routine—not an automatic laptop replacement for everyone.
What the MatePad Pro Max is—and what “world’s thinnest” means
Huawei unveiled the MatePad Pro Max at its Bangkok “Now Is Your Spark” event on May 7, 2026, according to Huawei’s announcement via PR Newswire. Huawei describes it as the world’s thinnest tablet with a screen larger than 13 inches. That is a manufacturer claim, repeated with attribution by reviewers—not a ranking independently established across all competing tablets in the sources available here.

For its size, the Pro Max is exceptionally slim on paper. Huawei lists a thickness of 4.7 mm and approximate weights of 499 g for the standard edition and 509 g for the PaperMatte Edition. Huawei says the weight figures come from its labs and may vary in actual use. Those specifications make portability a central part of the product’s case, but they do not by themselves establish durability or bending resistance.

Huawei specifies a flexible OLED panel measuring 13.2 inches, with 3000 × 2000 resolution, 273 ppi, a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and listed brightness of up to 1600 nits. The company also advertises a 3.55 mm bezel and 94% screen-to-body ratio. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The PaperMatte surface is exclusive to the PaperMatte Edition; buyers should not assume every version has its glare-reducing finish.

TechRadar’s review praised the screen’s vividness, smooth scrolling and visibility in sunlight. ITPro found the PaperMatte display paired with an M-Pencil well suited to creative work, describing a pencil-on-paper feel. Those are reviewer impressions rather than guarantees for every lighting condition or workflow.
Screen-to-body ratio figures vary by source: Huawei lists 94%, while TechRadar reports 91.4%. Since the measurement basis is not reconciled, neither should be treated as a definitive independent measurement.

Does it have Google apps, and is it good for productivity?
Software compatibility is the key buying decision. TechRadar reports that Google Play Services and Google apps are unavailable and that many major apps are missing from Huawei’s AppGallery. The practical consequence depends on which apps and services you rely on and on their availability in your region. If work or study depends on a particular Android app, Google sign-in, or a Google service, confirm that exact workflow on the local version before buying.
There are workarounds, but they are not equivalent to native Google services. T3 notes that tools such as GBox have limitations and that some apps may refuse to run or download. App behavior can change, so a workaround should not be treated as a promise that a required app will work.

TechRadar’s reviewer praised the premium-feeling metal build but found the keyboard’s opening mechanism less refined, and concluded that limited app availability seriously restricts productivity for people dependent on mainstream services. In practice, the large display and accessories may suit creative tasks or focused work, but the tablet’s usefulness as a general productivity machine rests on software fit more than on its hardware.

Who should buy the MatePad Pro Max?
It may suit you if
- You want a large, high-resolution OLED display in an unusually thin, light tablet.
- Your priority is drawing, media or other creative work, and the PaperMatte edition and optional stylus fit your needs.
- You have checked that your essential apps and services work on the regional software version.
Look elsewhere if
- Your daily workflow depends on Google Play Services, Google apps or specific mainstream apps that are unavailable or unreliable on the tablet.
- You need a keyboard-led productivity setup and have not confirmed the keyboard bundle, local availability and app compatibility.
- You are considering it based on a “world’s thinnest” ranking, a battery-life figure or a superlative performance claim as though it were independently verified.
The hardware is striking, and reviewers have praised the screen and build. But thinness cannot compensate for software that does not support your work. Decide based on the apps you actually use, then confirm the edition and accessory bundle available where you live.
