Huawei launched five Mate 90 phones in China on October 1, 2026: the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition, and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. The key differences are chipset, camera hardware, display features, and accessory compatibility; the published prices are China launch prices, not confirmed overseas retail prices. No overseas launch had been announced in ITmedia’s launch-week coverage.
Huawei Mate 90 series specifications at a glance
The table combines Huawei’s launch information with launch-week reporting from TechNode, ITmedia, and The Gadgeteer. “Not stated” means the cited launch information did not establish that specification for that model; it does not mean the phone lacks the feature.

Mate 90: the entry model in the family
The standard Mate 90 starts with Huawei’s Kirin 9030 and a 6.75-inch display, according to Huawei and The Gadgeteer. Huawei says its chip delivers 27% better overall performance than the Mate 80. The standard model does not have the reported Pro Max-class 200MP telephoto distinction, and the cited reporting does not establish Z10 modular-camera compatibility for it.

Mate 90 Pro: a chip and display step up
The Pro moves to a Kirin 9035 and shares the reported 6.75-inch screen size with the Mate 90. Huawei claims a 20% overall-performance improvement over the Mate 80 for this chip. The Pro is among the models described as having a second-generation Linglong display, but the cited launch reporting reserves the 200MP telephoto camera for Pro Max-class models.
Mate 90 Pro Max and Collector’s Edition
The regular Pro Max is reported with either a Kirin 9050 or 9050 Pro, but TechNode does not identify which storage or memory configurations receive each chip. The Collector’s Edition is listed at CNY 10,999 for a 16GB/512GB configuration by The Gadgeteer. Huawei identifies Kirin 9050 Pro for the Pro Max Premium Edition; the cited reports do not fully reconcile that label with the Collector’s Edition naming, so the exact variant-to-chip mapping should not be assumed.
Pro Max-class models are reported with a 6.9-inch display and a 200MP f/2.6 telephoto camera with an 89mm-equivalent focal length. TechNode reports an 18-stop HDR main camera and stabilization rated at CIPA 7.5 for the Pro Max. These are launch-report specifications, not independent camera-test results.

Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design
The RS is the highest-priced named model in Huawei’s launch pricing, at CNY 12,999 in China. Huawei lists it with the Kirin 9050 Pro. Like the Pro Max-class models, it is reported with a 6.9-inch display and 200MP telephoto camera; it is also one of the two models reported as compatible with the Z10 camera module.

What Huawei’s performance and display claims mean
Huawei’s claimed chip performance gains—27% for the Mate 90, 20% for the Pro, and 31% for the Pro Max Premium Edition and RS—are company comparisons against corresponding Mate 80 models. Huawei’s footnotes describe lab comparisons using Mate 80 phones running HarmonyOS 6 and Mate 90 phones running HarmonyOS 7, with app versions released in August 2026; Huawei says actual experience may vary. These figures are not independent benchmark results.
Huawei describes its “LogicFolding Tau” architecture as enabling 5 million signal-transmission bonds and 125 TB/s inter-die bandwidth. Those are Huawei’s architecture descriptions, not independently audited silicon measurements.
Huawei says Pro and higher models can reach a peak display brightness of 12,000 nits at 1% average picture level (APL). A 1% APL condition describes a small bright area in a test image, so the figure is not a sustained full-screen brightness rating. Huawei also claims the tandem OLED panel lifespan is extended by 138%; the cited launch information does not provide independent longevity testing.

Camera hardware and the Z10 modular camera
TechNode reports Huawei’s third-generation Red Maple primary-color camera system across the series. Huawei claims it improves global color accuracy by 37% and portrait skin-tone accuracy by 62%; these are manufacturer claims rather than independent camera measurements.
The reported 200MP telephoto is a Pro Max-class feature, not a stated series-wide camera. The Gadgeteer specifies an f/2.6 aperture and 89mm-equivalent focal length for that camera. TechNode additionally reports an 18-stop HDR main camera and CIPA 7.5 stabilization rating for the Pro Max.
The detachable XMAGE Z10 Modular Camera is reported to have a one-inch sensor and continuous 24–240mm-equivalent optical zoom. The Gadgeteer identifies compatibility only with the Pro Max Collector’s Edition and RS Ultimate Design; the ordinary Pro Max is excluded. The module is sold separately, not bundled with either compatible phone. A professional grip is also reported as a separate accessory.
Display protection and water resistance
Huawei says Pro and higher models use full-body Kunlun Xuanwu architecture and an Optical Kunlun Glass camera cover. For the camera cover, Huawei claims 20 times better drop resistance; for third-generation front Kunlun Glass, it claims 50% better impact resistance. Huawei’s footnotes describe lab comparisons against the Mate 80 Pro Max for the relevant data.
The Pro Max Premium Edition and RS have upgraded glass. Huawei claims 70% lower reflections and 16 times the scratch resistance compared with regular glass. These figures are manufacturer comparisons, not independent durability-test results.
Huawei rates the full lineup IP68 for dust and water resistance up to 6 meters, and IP69 for resistance to high-temperature, high-pressure water jets. These are manufacturer ratings; follow Huawei’s care instructions and warranty terms rather than assuming water damage is covered.

The cited launch-week sources do not establish whether the Mate 90 models include Google apps or Google Mobile Services. HarmonyOS branding by itself does not answer that question. They also do not establish overseas network-band compatibility, so buyers outside China should confirm supported bands and services for the exact regional model before importing.
Network and SIM features
Huawei markets “5A” connectivity and an integrated Wi-Fi/cellular antenna architecture. TechNode reports Huawei’s claim of a 2 dB signal improvement for the architecture; actual reception depends on supported bands, carrier, and location, details the launch reports do not fully specify. ITmedia reports the Pro Max supports up to four registered lines with three on simultaneous standby, subject to carrier conditions. That specific SIM-line capability should not be generalized to all models or networks.
China pricing, availability and buying checks
Huawei’s October 1 launch prices were CNY 5,999 for the Mate 90, CNY 6,999 for the Pro, CNY 9,499 for the Pro Max, and CNY 12,999 for the RS. The Gadgeteer reports CNY 10,999 for the Collector’s Edition in a 16GB/512GB configuration. These are China-market launch figures, not converted prices or confirmed offers in other countries. The launch-week sources do not confirm international retail pricing, warranty coverage outside China, or Amazon stock.
Before buying, match the exact model to the feature you need:
- Choose among the chip tiers with care: regular Pro Max chip assignments are not mapped to configurations in TechNode’s report.
- If the detachable Z10 camera is essential, verify the phone is the Pro Max Collector’s Edition or RS; ordinary Pro Max compatibility is not reported.
- Check case fit by exact model. The Gadgeteer reports the Brickase Mate 90 case also fits the Pro; the Pro Max case fits the Collector’s Edition; RS uses its own case. An RS Star Diamond case is reported as included in the RS box. Confirm fit with the accessory seller before ordering.
- For an import, confirm local network bands, language and app support, regional services, seller return terms, and warranty in writing; the cited launch reports do not settle those questions.
What is not yet established about the Mate 90
Huawei announced the family for China, and ITmedia reported no overseas launch announcement at that time. The cited launch coverage provides no confirmed global release date, overseas pricing, local warranty terms, or independent hands-on review and benchmarks for these new models. Reuters’ pre-launch reporting quoted Huawei’s Richard Yu saying smartphone-chip capacity remained tight, but that comment is industry context, not evidence of Mate 90 stock or sales.
