That does not establish across-the-board chip parity: the reported outcomes vary by game and resolution, and Huawei sells the phone with two different chips. The standard model uses Kirin 9050; the Collector’s Edition uses Kirin 9050 Pro.
What the reported gaming tests show
An October 4, 2026 report by IT Home, citing Geekerwan testing, gives results for two games at different rendered resolutions. In Genshin Impact, the Mate 90 Pro Max reportedly delivered a full-frame experience at 890p while drawing 4.2 W. The report says that result outperformed some phones with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and approached the iPhone 17 Pro Max with A19 Pro and some Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 configurations. In Wuthering Waves, the reported resolution was 648p.

These are game-specific results, not a universal ranking. The different resolutions alone make a simple comparison misleading: a phone rendering fewer pixels may sustain a higher frame rate or use less power than one rendering at a higher resolution. The report does not establish a broad, controlled comparison across identical game builds, graphics settings, phone variants, memory configurations, temperatures, session lengths, and repeat runs. Read “rivaling” as a description of selected reported scenarios, not proof that the Mate wins or matches every Snapdragon or Apple phone in every game. IT Home’s report and Gizmochina’s October 5 coverage both attribute the gaming discussion to Geekerwan.
Which Mate 90 Pro Max has which chip?
Huawei’s specifications distinguish the standard Mate 90 Pro Max from its Collector’s Edition. The standard model is listed with Kirin 9050; the Collector’s Edition is listed with Kirin 9050 Pro. Huawei’s China buying guide lists standard configurations with 12GB or 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, while the Collector’s Edition has separate configurations. A gaming result cannot safely be assigned to both editions unless the tested variant is identified.

Huawei attributes performance figures to Kirin 9050 Pro: a 23% increase in multicore performance, 40% greater GPU rendering performance, and 140% greater NPU performance. These are manufacturer claims, not independent benchmark measurements. The official specifications and China buying guide identify the editions and configurations.
Huawei’s gaming and graphics claims
Huawei advertises second-generation hardware ray tracing, smart frame stabilization, and intelligent HDR for the Mate 90 series. Its feature page says gaming fluency improves by 10–20% and claims 25% lower energy use under heavy gaming load for its load-aware dynamic video technology. Huawei also says its ray-tracing capability can render up to 55 million rays per second, and claims the Mate 90 Pro Max is the first phone to reach a 120-fps “extreme ray tracing” tier in Arena Breakout. These figures and feature descriptions are Huawei’s claims; they should not be mistaken for independently verified results across games or devices.

GSMArena reported a Geekbench 7 run averaging 1,317 single-core and 5,381 multicore points for a Mate 90 Pro Max, comparing its CPU result with older Snapdragon generations. Geekbench is a synthetic CPU benchmark; it does not measure sustained frame rates, game-specific GPU behavior, or heat during a long session. It cannot independently confirm the gaming comparisons. - Exact edition and chip: confirm whether the phone is the standard Kirin 9050 model or the Kirin 9050 Pro Collector’s Edition.
- Game and settings: compare the same game build, rendered resolution, graphics preset, and ray-tracing options.
- Stability, not just a peak: look for sustained frame rates, frame-time stability, power use, and thermal behavior over a comparable session.

The Collector’s Edition is listed at CNY 10,999 for 16GB+512GB and CNY 12,999 for 16GB+1TB. These are China-market launch prices, not current global or Amazon prices; Huawei lists the Mate 90 Pro Max for sale from October 1, 2026. The official buying guide also lists a separate Z10 camera bundle.
