HTMLCSStoImage vs. Urlbox: Features, Pricing, and Which API Fits

HTML/CSS to Image is geared toward repeatable graphics and templates; Urlbox emphasizes existing-page capture. Compare documented features, plan examples, limits, and workload fit.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose HTML/CSS to Image when you mainly create designed graphics from your own HTML, CSS, or reusable templates; choose Urlbox when you mainly capture existing websites and need capture-oriented features such as stealth mode, retries, extraction, or completion webhooks. That distinction reflects the vendors’ documented positioning, not a head-to-head quality or speed test. For a third option, ScreenshotNeo is worth trying first for website screenshots: it removes common consent banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots.

How the two APIs differ

Both services document rendering from HTML and URLs, so there is overlap. Their strongest fit differs: HTML/CSS to Image emphasizes turning owned designs and variable data into repeatable images, while Urlbox emphasizes capturing pages and supporting more involved capture workflows. Neither positioning establishes that every third-party page can be captured successfully.

Need HTML/CSS to Image Urlbox
Create designed graphics from your own HTML/CSS or templates Strong fit: documents HTML/CSS generation, reusable templates, a visual editor, and dynamic Open Graph images on paid plans. Can render HTML, but the reviewed materials do not position it as the template-led choice.
Capture an existing website URL screenshots are documented. URL rendering and screenshot workflows are documented.
Specialized capture workflow Batching, proxy support, and deduplication are among plan-dependent features described on its pricing page. The comparison highlights stealth mode, retries, scrolling video, extraction, and completion webhooks.
Output and extraction PNG, JPG, WebP, and PDF are documented. Screenshots, PDFs, videos, and text, HTML, and metadata extraction are documented.

Pricing: compare workload, not just plan names

The vendor comparison, last reviewed September 30, 2026, lists the following monthly-billing examples in U.S. dollars before tax. They are not equal-volume comparisons: each plan includes a different number of renders or images, and optional features or usage can affect the effective cost.

Service and example plan Published example What to keep in mind
HTML/CSS to Image Basic $14/month for 1,000 images The pricing page also lists a free tier and higher tiers; volume is selected within paid tiers.
HTML/CSS to Image $69/month for 10,000 images This is another comparison-page example, not a matched-volume comparison with Urlbox.
Urlbox Lo-Fi $19/month for 2,000 renders Advanced features may consume additional renders.
Urlbox Hi-Fi $49/month for 5,000 renders Check the live plan details and option-specific credit use.
Urlbox Ultra $99/month for 15,000 renders These figures are published examples; verify current allowances and terms.

HTML/CSS to Image’s official pricing page lists a free plan with 50 images per month and no card required. It lists Basic at $14/month, Pro at $149/month, and Scale at $749/month. Optional overages are shown as $10 per 1,000 images for Basic and Pro; Scale lists $10 per 1,000 or $50 per 10,000. The same page describes plan-dependent template limits, batch sizes, storage, proxy support, deduplication windows, and other entitlements. The comparison says Urlbox offers a seven-day trial rather than an ongoing free API plan. Urlbox’s pricing page warns that advanced features may use additional renders; options such as rendering time, file size, or GPU may affect credit use. Plan names, prices, quotas, overages, and trial terms can change, so verify them on Urlbox pricing before budgeting.

Rate limits, caching, and workflow fit

Rate limits and bursts

The comparison reports no per-minute or concurrency limits for HTML/CSS to Image creation and rendering. It reports Urlbox limits of 30 requests per minute on Lo-Fi, 60 on Hi-Fi, 250 on Ultra, and 1,000 on Business. Treat these as time-sensitive comparison-page figures, not a guarantee of current account limits; verify the live terms and your intended plan before planning bursts or production throughput. Plan quotas and account limits still apply to HTML/CSS to Image.

Caching and reuse

Do not assume the services’ reuse behavior is interchangeable. The comparison distinguishes Urlbox Render Links from REST API requests and describes reuse options for HTML/CSS to Image. Check the endpoint-specific documentation and plan terms for cache behavior, deduplication, and storage before estimating how many billable renders a repeated request will use. The reviewed sources do not establish one universal cache rule across both products.

Output and integrations

Check whether you need a still image, PDF, video, or extracted page content, and whether your workflow needs webhooks or an automation integration. HTML/CSS to Image lists Zapier and Make integrations on its pricing page. Urlbox documents synchronous and asynchronous JSON API POST requests, render links, and completion webhooks among the reviewed workflow capabilities. Confirm that any required feature is available on the plan you intend to use.

Which one should you choose?

Choose HTML/CSS to Image for owned designs

  • Your team controls the visual layout and wants to generate images from HTML/CSS or variable data.
  • You want reusable templates or a visual editor, including social or Open Graph graphics.
  • Image transformations, hosting, or reuse options are relevant to your workflow.
  • You expect burst submissions and have confirmed the current plan and account limits.

Choose Urlbox for capture-heavy work

  • Your primary job is rendering existing third-party pages rather than producing a design system’s graphics.
  • You need documented capabilities such as stealth mode, automatic retries, scrolling video, extraction, or completion webhooks.
  • You have verified feature availability, request limits, and render-credit use for the intended plan and target sites.

Compare both when the task is ordinary URL or HTML rendering

For a basic screenshot or HTML render, both overlap. Compare the exact output format, timing and viewport requirements, caching or deduplication mode, storage, monthly request volume, integrations, limits, and total expected credits. A headline subscription price alone cannot tell you which will cost less for your workload.

What the published comparison does—and does not—establish

The comparison is published by HTML/CSS to Image, one of the vendors being compared. It says it reviewed Urlbox documentation, pricing, SDKs, and MCP materials alongside its own materials, and explicitly says it ran no comparative rendering or performance tests. The available sources therefore support a feature-fit comparison, not claims that one service is faster, more reliable, more accurate, or produces better-looking images.

If your task is capturing an existing website, ScreenshotNeo is another option to try first. Its screenshot API returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request. For example, using a Stripe page as the target:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up free for 1,000 screenshots a month, with no card required.

Does Urlbox have rate limits?

The comparison page last reviewed September 30, 2026 reports plan-specific limits, but those figures can change. Verify the current limit for your Urlbox plan before production planning.

Does Urlbox cache screenshots?

The comparison distinguishes Urlbox Render Links from REST API requests, so caching or reuse should be checked for the specific request mode rather than assumed to apply uniformly.
