Choose the MacBook Neo if carrying a lighter, smaller laptop matters most; choose a specific HP OmniBook 3 16-inch configuration if you need a larger screen, number pad, and built-in USB-A and HDMI. The Neo is listed at 1.23 kg with a 13-inch display. The cited OmniBook 3 16-inch configurations weigh about 1.64–1.65 kg, but their screens, batteries, memory, processors, and operating systems vary by model. There is no single OmniBook 3 specification or universal winner.
At a glance: portability or built-in practicality?
| Priority | MacBook Neo | HP OmniBook 3 16-inch examples |
|---|---|---|
| Weight and size | 13-inch display; 1.23 kg, according to Apple’s specifications. | The cited configurations weigh 1.64 kg and 1.65 kg, and have 16-inch displays. |
| Screen | 13-inch 2408 × 1506 IPS, rated at 500 nits by Apple. | The HP 16-bu0022ne (DF7N8EA) has a 1920 × 1200 IPS panel rated at 300 nits. A separate reviewed configuration has an OLED panel. |
| Ports | Two USB-C ports with different data speeds and a headphone jack; supports one external display up to 4K at 60 Hz. | The cited 16-bu0022ne has two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone/microphone combo jack. |
| Operating system | macOS. | Depends on the exact SKU. The cited 16-bu0022ne listing specifies FreeDOS 3.0; the separately reviewed Snapdragon X model runs Windows on Snapdragon. |
| Battery evidence | Apple estimates up to 16 hours of video streaming or up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing. | HP lists up to nine hours for the 41 Wh 16-bu0022ne. A reviewer reported full days of mixed use on a different 68 Wh Snapdragon X/OLED unit. |
These are manufacturer estimates and observations from different configurations, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. The weight difference is about 0.4 kg: that can matter when you carry a laptop every day, while the OmniBook’s larger display and built-in connections can matter more at a desk, in a classroom, or when plugging into existing peripherals.

Choose the MacBook Neo if carrying comfort comes first
At 1.23 kg and 13 inches, the Neo is the more portable option in this comparison. Its smaller footprint is easier to fit into a compact bag, and Apple rates its IPS display at 500 nits. That is a higher stated brightness than the 300-nit panel on the cited HP 16-bu0022ne; it does not establish that every OmniBook 3 has the same display, or that the Neo wins every real-world screen comparison.
MacOS is also the straightforward choice if the applications and school or work tools you rely on require it, or if you already depend on Apple devices and workflows. Before buying, check that the software you need is available for macOS and that your accessories can connect to the Neo’s ports.

Know the Neo’s connection limits
Apple lists one USB-C port with USB 3 data speeds up to 10 Gb/s and another with USB 2 speeds up to 480 Mb/s. There is also a headphone jack, and the computer supports one external display at up to 4K and 60 Hz. Neither USB-C port is a built-in HDMI or USB-A port. If you regularly connect older USB accessories or an HDMI monitor, account for the need for a suitable USB-C hub or adapter.
Choose an OmniBook 3 configuration if screen space and ports matter more
A 16-inch display provides a larger workspace than the Neo’s 13-inch screen, and the cited HP configurations include a numeric keypad. Windows Central’s reviewer described the keypad as useful for productivity. The additional screen area and number pad may be more valuable than the weight saving if you spend long sessions working with documents, spreadsheets, or multiple windows.
The cited HP 16-bu0022ne also includes two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1, and a combined headphone/microphone jack. That can make it easier to connect common peripherals and a display directly, without carrying a hub. These port details apply to that listed SKU, not automatically to every OmniBook 3.

Check the exact model before comparing specifications
“OmniBook 3” is a family name, not a fixed configuration. The official HP regional listing for the 16-bu0022ne (DF7N8EA) describes a Middle East configuration with an Intel Core 7 350 processor, 8 GB DDR5 memory, 512 GB SSD, a 16-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS display rated at 300 nits, a 41 Wh battery, and FreeDOS 3.0. HP lists up to nine hours of battery life and a weight of 1.64 kg for this model. See HP’s OmniBook 3 16-bu0022ne specifications and verify that the product code and regional listing match the laptop you are considering.
That is not the same computer as the OmniBook 3 reviewed by Windows Central. Cale Hunt tested a 16-inch Snapdragon X configuration with 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, an OLED panel, a 68 Wh battery, and a 1.65 kg weight. The review also discusses more modest 16 GB/512 GB/IPS models. Its OLED and battery observations should not be applied to the 8 GB/512 GB HP listing above. The reviewer wrote, “I was seeing full — and I mean full — days of mixed use without needing a charge,” describing that specific 68 Wh Snapdragon X/OLED unit.
Windows Central’s review reported a $399 Walmart price for a 16 GB/512 GB/IPS OmniBook configuration at the time of its review. That is a historical price for a different configuration, not a current offer or a price for the 16-bu0022ne. TechRadar reported a separate HP US sale price of $449.99 on October 1, 2026, for an Intel model with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD; it also said it could not find a review of that exact model. Treat both figures as dated examples, not a basis for assuming today’s price or performance.

Battery life: compare the claim and the configuration
Apple’s “up to” figures are separate estimates: up to 16 hours of video streaming and up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing. HP lists up to nine hours for the 41 Wh 16-bu0022ne. Windows Central’s full-day mixed-use observation applies to its different 68 Wh Snapdragon X/OLED review unit. The claims describe different devices and usage conditions, so they do not show which laptop will last longer in the same workload. If battery life is decisive, look for testing of the exact model you plan to buy and consider your own mix of browsing, video, calls, and demanding apps.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →A practical buying checklist
- Identify the exact HP product code. Match the listing to its full model or SKU, not just “OmniBook 3.” Confirm the processor, memory, storage, display type and resolution, battery capacity, weight, and included operating system.
- Confirm the operating system and required apps. The cited 16-bu0022ne is listed with FreeDOS 3.0, while the reviewed Snapdragon X model runs Windows on Snapdragon. Do not assume every OmniBook arrives with the same version of Windows—or that your software and peripherals will work identically across platforms.
- List the connections you actually use. If you need built-in HDMI or USB-A, the cited HP SKU has those ports. If you choose the Neo, decide whether its USB-C ports and one supported external display meet your needs or whether you will need a hub.
- Compare same-day local prices for like-for-like configurations. The cited HP price examples refer to different models, retailers, dates, and specifications. Compare the actual memory, storage, screen, OS, and warranty included in each local offer.
- Choose the trade-off you will notice most. The Neo saves about 0.4 kg versus the cited 16-inch HP examples. The HP gives you a larger screen, a number pad, and—on the cited SKU—more built-in ports.
Verdict: the more practical choice depends on where you use it
For frequent commuting, carrying between classes, or a small everyday bag, the MacBook Neo is the clearer practical pick because it is substantially lighter and more compact. For desk-to-classroom use where a 16-inch workspace, numeric keypad, USB-A, and HDMI reduce friction, a matching OmniBook 3 configuration may be more convenient. Make that choice only after verifying the exact HP SKU, especially its operating system, display, battery, and current local price; the family name alone is not enough to establish value.
