The HP DeskJet 2821e is a compact three-function inkjet for light home use: it prints, copies and scans, with Wi-Fi and USB connectivity. HP’s listed recommended monthly volume is just 50–100 pages, and the printer has no automatic document feeder, no automatic duplexing and no borderless printing. It may suit occasional worksheets, forms and everyday documents, but its modest capacity and HP+ setup conditions deserve attention before you buy.
This assessment uses HP’s published specifications, not hands-on testing. The detailed figures below refer primarily to HP’s Philippines listing for regional model 588Q2B, checked in October 2026; cartridge configurations and compatibility can differ by country.

What the HP DeskJet 2821e does—and who it suits
The 2821e is a thermal inkjet all-in-one that prints, copies and scans. HP’s cited specification lists wireless 802.11b/g/n, USB 2.0, the HP app, Apple AirPrint, Chrome OS and Mopria support. It does not include fax functionality.
Its intended workload is light home printing. HP lists a recommended monthly volume of 50–100 pages. The separate maximum monthly duty cycle is 1,000 pages, but that is a ceiling, not a recommended ongoing workload. For a household that prints a few documents or school pages now and then, the 2821e’s basic feature set may be enough. A busier home office or a user who routinely handles long documents should prioritize more capacity and automation.

Print speed, output and paper handling
HP rates the 2821e at up to 7.5 pages per minute in black and 5.5 pages per minute in color. Those are manufacturer-rated maximum speeds, not independent measurements of typical jobs. HP also lists black output at 1200 × 1200 rendered dpi and optimized color output up to 4800 × 1200 dpi under specified paper and input-resolution conditions. These figures describe published output specifications; they do not establish real-world text or photo quality.
The Philippines 588Q2B specification lists a 60-sheet input tray and a 25-sheet output tray. That is a small paper reserve, so frequent printing means refilling the input tray and collecting output more often than with a higher-capacity machine. The same listing gives copy speeds up to 6 copies per minute in black and 3 in color, with a maximum of nine copies per job. HP lists optical scan resolution up to 1200 dpi.

HP says the printer is not borderless. It can still print on supported photo paper, but expect a margin rather than edge-to-edge output.
Does the HP DeskJet 2821e print double-sided?
It supports manual duplex printing with driver assistance, not automatic two-sided printing. You print one side, then follow the software prompts to reinsert or turn the pages for the reverse side. This can work for occasional short documents, but it adds handling and is less convenient for frequent multi-page jobs.

Scanning and copying: no automatic document feeder
The 2821e has a flatbed scanner and no automatic document feeder (ADF). Each page of a multi-page original must be placed on the scanner glass individually. That is practical for a receipt, a page from a book or an occasional form; it is a slower workflow for stacks of paperwork. If batch scanning or copying is a regular task, an ADF is a meaningful feature to seek in another printer.
What ink does the HP DeskJet 2821e use?
Cartridge numbers depend on the regional version. For the Philippines 588Q2B listing, HP specifies HP 305 or HP 305XL cartridges. HP’s approximate yields for that listing are:

| Cartridge listed for Philippines model 588Q2B | HP’s approximate yield |
|---|---|
| HP 305 black | About 120 pages |
| HP 305XL black | About 240 pages |
| HP 305 tri-color | About 100 pages |
| HP 305XL tri-color | About 200 pages |
These are HP estimates, not guaranteed page counts; actual yield varies with page content and other factors. Before ordering ink, check the exact model and cartridge listing for your country. HP’s Bangladesh specification for a regional 2821e listing shows HP 67 setup cartridges, illustrating why the 305 numbers should not be generalized worldwide. See HP’s Philippines specifications for model 588Q2B and Bangladesh specifications.

HP+ and internet requirements
The 2821e is HP+ enabled. Choosing HP+ during setup is optional, but HP says it requires an HP account, ongoing internet access and exclusive use of Original HP Ink cartridges for the printer’s life. That ongoing ink condition is important if you expect to use cartridges from other suppliers, including refilled or remanufactured options. Review the terms shown for your country before opting in during setup. HP describes the conditions on its Ireland product page.
HP also describes dynamic security as a measure intended to block cartridges that use modified or non-HP electronic circuitry. HP says reused HP electronic circuitry enables the use of reused, remanufactured and refilled cartridges. This is HP’s description of its cartridge system; check local product terms and cartridge compatibility before buying supplies.
Compatibility and connection options
HP’s cited regional specification lists Windows 10 and 11, a range of macOS releases through macOS 15 Sequoia, and Chrome OS. Operating-system support can change, so confirm current compatibility for your computer on HP’s DeskJet 2800e setup and user guides page before purchase. The listed Wi-Fi, USB, AirPrint and Mopria support gives several ways to send jobs, but the precise setup experience and feature availability were not independently tested here.

Should you buy the HP DeskJet 2821e?
It is a plausible choice if you want basic printing, copying and scanning for occasional home use, and you are comfortable with a small tray, manual two-sided printing and flatbed-only scanning. Its core trade-off is simplicity against workflow convenience: the stated speed and capacity are modest, and there is no ADF or borderless output.
Before choosing it, check the cost and availability of the correct local cartridges and decide whether HP+’s account, internet and Original HP Ink conditions fit your preferences. If you print frequently, scan multi-page documents in batches, or need automatic duplexing, those missing conveniences are more consequential than the printer’s compact all-in-one feature set.
