How many Xbox Cloud Gaming hours will each plan include?
Microsoft announced the following monthly cloud-play allowances, beginning in November 2026:

Does Xbox end a session after a set number of hours?
The announcement specifies monthly allowances but does not state a maximum length for one uninterrupted session. It does not establish a one-hour cutoff or any other fixed session timer. Do not treat a plan’s monthly hours as the length of a single session: the specific per-session question is not answered by Microsoft’s announcement.

What happens when the monthly hours run out?
Microsoft says subscribers who use their included cloud-playtime can buy additional hours through the Xbox Store. The September announcement does not specify the price, number of hours per purchase, expiration policy, or availability in each market. Microsoft says it will share more details before the change takes effect, including pricing, how to buy extra time, eligible games, market availability, and how to check remaining hours. Xbox also cautions that purchasing options and cloud features can vary by market.
Can multiple Game Pass subscriptions add their hours together?
No. Xbox’s US Cloud Gaming plan page says allowances from multiple Game Pass subscriptions do not stack. If you have more than one eligible plan or a partner offer, the subscription with the higher cloud-playtime allowance applies.

Can you use Xbox cloud gaming without Game Pass?
Microsoft announced that beginning in November 2026, players will be able to purchase playtime hours and stream eligible owned games on supported devices without a Game Pass subscription. The announcement does not yet specify the prices, eligibility details, or markets for this option.
Do device or internet requirements change the hour allowance?
No. Device compatibility, controller input, region, and connection quality affect whether and how well you can stream; they do not change the stated monthly plan allowance. Xbox lists supported phones, tablets, PCs, Xbox consoles, select TVs and streaming devices, and select VR headsets. Its cloud gaming setup information calls for a supported region and device, a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB, and an internet connection. Select games offer Xbox touch controls. Xbox gives 10 Mbps as a minimum download-speed figure and says some devices may require 20 Mbps for best quality; performance also depends on network, location, device, and other factors.

How should you compare plans for cloud play?
Start with the included monthly hours: Essential has 5, Premium 10, and Ultimate 15, beginning in November 2026. Then weigh the plans’ other games and benefits against what you actually use; the hour allowance alone does not establish a best plan. The US plan page lists those same allowances, but prices and purchasing options can vary by market, so check Xbox’s current local plan page rather than relying on older price listings.
Microsoft estimates that the upcoming limits will affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. That is the company’s estimate in its September 3, 2026 announcement; it does not provide the calculation or usage window.
