Five of 42 scheduled Bluesky posts in our seven-day window ending September 6, 2026, included an image: about 12%. We wanted image or video on one post in every two, so we added a commit-time queue gate and restricted media references to a single directory with SHA-256 verification. That change validates what is scheduled; it does not prove more media was ultimately posted.
Why the queue needed a sequence rule
The five-of-42 count was an observation from our own scheduled-post log, not a platform benchmark. For this health check, we excluded self-replies and immediate news posts. Our stated target was one in every two scheduled posts carrying an image or video.

A whole-queue percentage can hide a long stretch of text-only posts. Instead, we sort scheduled posts by planned time and check every neighboring pair. If both posts in any adjacent pair are text-only, the queue fails and the diagnostic identifies both posts. This enforces a cadence rather than merely a total: as the Rulestack build report puts it, “Feeds do not experience ratios; they experience sequences.”
How we constrained media references
Use one allowlisted directory
Previously, a stock row could supply a path to the poster. We changed media references to bare filenames resolved only beneath content/posts-media/. The resolver rejects path separators, .. traversal, absolute paths, and files whose extension does not match the declared media kind. After resolving the filename, it checks that the resulting absolute path is still contained in the allowed directory.

This narrows what a stock row can reach: it can name a file in the designated media directory, not point the posting process at an arbitrary path elsewhere on the machine. We also adjusted the repository ignore rule so that directory remains committed, and added a test to catch removal of that exception.
Verify the rendered bytes
Each renderer output has a metadata sidecar containing its specification and the output file’s SHA-256 digest. A shared loadPostMedia function checks that the media file and sidecar exist, that the sidecar’s kind and filename agree with the stock row, and that the file’s digest matches the recorded digest.

Both the commit gate and the posting code use this same loader. That avoids having the gate approve a file under one set of checks while the poster interprets it differently. If the output bytes change, the asset must be rendered again so its sidecar and digest describe the new file.

What the commit gate checks
The gate combines queue cadence checks with media integrity checks. The described tests verify that media loads, alt text is non-empty, the ignore-rule exception remains in place, and every file in content/posts-media/ has a sidecar. Together, these checks catch missing or mismatched assets and prevent a schedule from containing adjacent text-only posts.

The adjacency rule is deliberately stricter than a queue-wide ratio. A ratio asks whether enough posts contain media overall; the sequence check asks whether a text-only gap has appeared. These are different policies, and neither is shown to outperform the other in a controlled comparison.
Why scheduled media is not the same as delivered media
A commit gate can validate files and scheduled posts, but it cannot guarantee that a runner uploads them successfully or that Bluesky accepts them. We described a separate health check that reads the recent posting log and warns when the observed media rate falls below the target. That checks outcomes rather than just the queue.

The related account reported 16 of 27 media rows in stock—12 images and four videos—and zero videos posted at the time it was written. It described four videos as 5.2, 6.65, 5.2, and 5.5 seconds long, with file sizes between 52 and 72 KB. Those are implementation details, not performance results. The post-change media rate remained unmeasured, so the original 12% baseline cannot establish that the gate improved actual posting.
What this implementation does—and does not—establish
This is a first-party account of one team’s implementation. The detailed behavior above is as reported by Rulestack; the related write-up notes that there is no publicly linked commit to inspect independently. The design addresses two separate risks: a schedule that lets media disappear for too long, and a stock entry that could direct the poster toward an unintended file. Delivery monitoring remains necessary to learn whether scheduled media was actually published.
