To allow a website without turning off protection across the web, create an exception for that site in the specific blocker that is affecting it. Depending on the product, the control may be called an allowlist, site-specific settings, Shields, or a per-site switch. If the blocker offers individual controls, try the narrowest relevant one before allowing the entire site.
First identify which blocker is affecting the page
A site can be filtered by more than one layer: a browser extension, built-in browser protection, desktop filtering software, DNS filtering, or a network-level filter. An exception in one product cannot necessarily override another. Start by identifying the control you want to change, using the product icon or its settings page.

“Whitelist” and “allowlist” are commonly used for a site exception. Product labels and the scope of an exception vary, so use the steps for the product and platform you actually have.

Choose the narrowest exception that can solve the problem
A whole-site allowlist may exempt that site from all of the product’s blocking rules, not just its ads. AdGuard describes its browser-extension allowlist this way, so allowing a site can also permit other resources that the extension would otherwise block. This does not mean that browser security features or other blockers are disabled.

If the page is broken or reports ad-block detection, first consider a site-level control for one filtering feature. For example, uBlock Origin has a per-site switch for cosmetic filtering, which hides page elements. Its wiki says that switch can serve the same purpose as a site-specific cosmetic-filter exception rule in certain detection cases. It is not interchangeable with the other per-site controls for items such as remote fonts, JavaScript, or popups.
Allow a site in your blocker
uBlock Origin
While viewing the affected site, open the uBlock Origin popup and look for its per-site switches. If the issue appears related to page layout or ad-block detection, try disabling cosmetic filtering for that site before changing broader blocking controls. Brave Shields
- Open the affected website in Brave.
- Click the Lion icon on the right side of the address bar.
- Open Advanced controls to see individual Shields settings for the site currently in focus, then change the control relevant to the problem.
- Reload the page if the change does not appear immediately.
Brave’s Simple view is read-only for individual settings, although it lets you toggle Shields up or down. Turning Shields down is broader than adjusting one control. Brave says a site’s custom choices are remembered, including after global Shields settings change. See Brave’s Shields settings instructions.

- Click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon.
- Open the gear or settings view.
- Choose Allowlisted websites, enter the website URL, and choose Add website.
These are the desktop-extension steps; other platforms use different menus. Adblock Plus for iOS uses Safari Blocking > Allowlisted Sites; macOS Safari uses the extension menu and its Allowlist tab; and Samsung Browser for Android has an allowlist in the ABP app. Adblock Plus says a site remains allowlisted for seven days, and a visit during that period renews the allowance for another seven days. If you do not revisit within the period, the site is removed. See the Adblock Plus instructions for allowing a site.

AdGuard browser extension or desktop software
In the AdGuard browser extension, add the site to the Allowlist. The knowledge base says allowlist changes are saved in User rules. See AdGuard’s browser-extension allowlist instructions.
For AdGuard desktop software, the support page lists several routes: use the browser Assistant toggle, add the domain under General > Edit Allowlist, or add a user rule. Most users should start with the product interface rather than hand-editing a rule. The documented advanced example for excluding a whole domain is @@||domain.com^$document; it excludes the document/site from filtering. The support page also describes a separate DNS allowlist. Chrome’s built-in intrusive-ads control
This setting controls Chrome’s own intrusive-ads behavior; it does not necessarily change a third-party extension installed in Chrome. On desktop:

- Choose Site settings.
- Under Permissions, set Intrusive ads to Allow.
- Reload the page.
Chrome also documents a global setting to allow ads on all sites, but that has wider scope than the per-site setting above. Google Chrome Help explains: “Chrome removes ads from websites that violate the Better Ads Standards.” See Google Chrome Help on intrusive ads.

If the site is still blocked
- Confirm the product and setting. Make sure you changed the blocker or browser feature that is actually filtering the page.
- Check the exception’s scope. If a whole-site allowance is too broad, restore it and try an individual site control, where available.
- Reload the page. Chrome explicitly calls for a reload after allowing intrusive ads; for other products, reloading is a useful troubleshooting step rather than a guarantee.
- Look for overlapping filters. Check for another extension, browser protection, desktop filtering, DNS filtering, or network-level filtering. AdGuard notes that if an app exclusion does not resolve the issue, the selected DNS server may still be blocking the domain; its DNS allowlist or server choice may need attention.
- Remove the exception when it is no longer needed. Use the same product’s allowlist or site settings to undo the change. Adblock Plus links to a removal guide from its help page.
Why the exception may not be permanent
Persistence depends on the product. Brave says site-specific custom choices are remembered, including when global Shields settings change. Adblock Plus’s smart allowlisting works differently: the seven-day period renews when you visit the site within that period, and otherwise the site is removed from the allowlist. Other products’ persistence behavior is not established by the instructions cited here.
Product labels and platform support can change. Brave’s cited support article is dated February 11, 2025, and the uBlock Origin wiki page shows an edit date of October 31, 2024; the cited instructions were checked on October 3, 2026. If a menu differs, consult the linked live help page for your product and platform.
