For a maang tikka that stays in place, centre its pendant on your forehead, then secure the hook into a substantial section of hair at the beginning of your centre part—not just a few surface strands. Cross two bobby pins over the hook for extra support, especially with a heavy ornament or smooth hair. If your hair is loose, add a small braid or puff at the crown as a second anchor.

Secure the hook at the start of the parting, close to the roots. Catch a substantial section of hair so the ornament has something firm to grip; avoid relying on loose surface strands.

Adjust the anchor to your hair and tikka
Heavy tikka
Use a root-level anchor with two crossed pins. A small braid or supported updo can provide a firmer base and help distribute the pull. Styling guides do not give a weight threshold, so judge the fit by whether the anchor pulls or shifts when you move.
Smooth, fine, or recently oiled hair
Build a more structured anchor and use additional pins rather than catching only slippery surface strands. Some vendor styling guides suggest texturizing or setting spray, while another mentions hair wax; these are optional styling suggestions, not necessary products or guaranteed fixes.

Open hair
Loose hair alone may not give the chain enough support. Pin it into a small braid or puff at the crown so the tikka has a second attachment point as well as the front anchor.
What to expect from the fit check
Turning your head and bending forward can reveal a loose hook before the occasion. It is a practical check, not a formal test: styling guides do not establish a guaranteed hold time or show that one pinning method works best in every case. Avoid treating skin adhesive as a routine fix; the cited guides do not establish a safe product or application method for it.
