To watch Netflix on a compatible Chromecast from an iPhone, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network, open Netflix, tap the Cast icon, choose the Chromecast, and start a show or movie. Netflix’s iPhone casting flow requires iOS 16 or later and a Standard or Premium plan; it does not support AirPlay.
What you need before you cast
- A compatible receiver: Netflix lists Chromecast devices up to and including the 3rd generation that do not have a physical remote, Google Nest Hub Smart Displays, and select cast-enabled Vizio and Compal TVs. Do not assume every Chromecast or Google TV device works with this iPhone casting flow. Check Netflix’s supported-device details before troubleshooting or buying a receiver.
- A supported iPhone and Netflix plan: Netflix says casting from an iPhone or iPad requires iOS or iPadOS 16 or later and is available on Standard or Premium plans. Plan features can change, so check your current plan if casting is unavailable. See Netflix’s cast icon troubleshooting guidance.
- Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network: Set up the Chromecast and connect the iPhone to the same network before opening Netflix.
Cast Netflix from your iPhone
- Set up the Chromecast and connect it and your iPhone to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Netflix app on your iPhone and sign in if prompted.
- Choose a Netflix profile.
- Tap the Cast icon in the upper-right corner of the app.
- Select your Chromecast from the device list.
- Choose a show or movie to start playback.
Once playback starts, use the iPhone to pause, rewind, fast-forward, and adjust audio or subtitle settings.

If your Chromecast does not appear
Try these checks in order when the Cast icon is missing or Netflix cannot find the Chromecast:
- On the iPhone, open Settings, find Netflix, and turn on Local Network access. Netflix needs this permission to find nearby cast devices.
- Open Google Home and check that the Chromecast is listed and online. Confirm the iPhone and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Update Google Home in the App Store, then close and reopen Netflix and try casting again.
- Restart the iPhone and Chromecast, then retry.
- Confirm the iPhone is running iOS 16 or later.
Netflix provides additional steps on its cast device or cast icon troubleshooting page. If the Chromecast still cannot be found, check that it is set up correctly and follow the applicable steps on Netflix’s Chromecast troubleshooting page.

- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
If casting is not an option
Netflix does not support AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad, so you cannot use AirPlay as a substitute for its Cast feature. If the receiver is not on Netflix’s supported casting list but has the Netflix app, open Netflix with the TV or streaming device’s own remote instead.
A wired connection is another possibility: connect the iPhone directly to the TV using a supported video cable or adapter. The right adapter depends on the iPhone’s connector and whether that model supports video output, so verify compatibility with both the phone and display before choosing one. Netflix outlines these alternatives in its mobile casting and mirroring guidance.
