To watch a live game legally, start at the league or event’s official website, open its broadcaster or “where to watch” page, and select your country. Then watch through the listed provider’s official app or website. Check that it carries the exact event in your location and whether you need a subscription before kickoff: sports rights are territorial, and even a legitimate service may not show every game.
Find the authorized broadcaster for your country
- Open the official site for the league, competition, or event you want to watch.
- Choose its broadcaster, “where to watch,” or equivalent page, then select your country or territory.
- Find the provider listed for that location and open the provider’s official website or app.
- Search the provider’s event listing for the specific match or event. Confirm whether it is live, delayed, or available only as a replay or highlights, and check any subscription requirement.
Official directories show why it is important to check locally rather than rely on a channel list from another country. UEFA’s 2026/27 Champions League broadcaster page lists providers by territory; its U.S. listing names Paramount+, TUDN, and DAZN. The Premier League’s broadcast listings cover its 2025/26–2027/28 rights window by country. These are examples of how to verify rights, not universal recommendations; the relevant provider depends on your country, event, and season.

Check for blackouts and other limits
A service can be authorized and still exclude a particular game in your location. Rights holders license sports by territory, and services may restrict live, delayed, or on-demand coverage differently. Use the service listed for your actual country and read the event’s availability terms rather than assuming a league subscription includes every game.

Its global availability page also identifies excluded regions. The NBA example should not be taken to describe other leagues’ rules; check the terms of the specific service you plan to use.

WIPO explains that territorial exclusivity can lead to geoblocking so distributors comply with regional agreements. A VPN is not a legitimate workaround for a blackout or licensing restriction. Choose the authorized option for your location and follow its terms.
Use official apps and devices
Once you have confirmed the rights holder, get the app from the provider’s official site or your device’s official app store, or watch on its official website. Check the app’s supported-device information and the event page; some providers require a separate paid subscription. Amazon’s Fire TV live-TV guidance, for example, describes viewing through supported apps and notes that some require paid subscriptions.

A streaming device is optional if your smart TV, phone, tablet, computer, or console already supports the provider. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K Plus is one device for running supported apps on a compatible TV, but the stick itself does not provide a sports subscription, guarantee that every broadcaster’s app is compatible, or change regional rights.

Why avoid unauthorized streams
Unlicensed streaming sites and apps can expose viewers to cybersecurity and privacy risks, but the evidence does not mean every visitor will be affected. WIPO reports that 65% of people who access illegally streamed content had experienced cybersecurity issues, attributing the figure to Creative Content Australia; the WIPO page does not state the study year. That figure describes the reported group, not the chance that any particular viewer will have a problem.

In a September 11, 2026 announcement, CANAL+ and LALIGA identified personal-data theft, malware, and fraud among risks associated with illegal services. This is a rights-holder statement about risks, not a measured rate of incidents. Avoid unofficial stream aggregators, sideloaded piracy apps, and stream links posted in social comments. Antivirus software, ad blockers, or a VPN cannot make an unauthorized stream legal or guarantee that it is safe.

If the official directory or provider does not list the event for your country, do not assume that a service carrying the league elsewhere will carry it for you. Check the event’s official listings for an authorized free broadcast, radio coverage, live text, highlights, or a later replay. WIPO points viewers toward legal-source directories and official rights-holder listings, including Olympic and Tour de France sources, but free live access is event-specific—not a general feature of sports streaming.
