Navigation finishing does not mean a Vue or Angular page has rendered the content you want to capture. In Puppeteer, wait for a visible, content-specific selector—or an app-owned readiness signal—then take the screenshot. Use network idle only as a secondary condition when the page’s behavior makes it useful.
Wait for the pixels you need, not just navigation
A single-page app can receive mostly empty HTML and render its view only after JavaScript runs. Puppeteer’s navigation events describe browser lifecycle milestones, not whether asynchronous application data and rendering have produced the intended view. A root such as #app or app-root may exist well before the useful content does.

Use a selector that appears only when the relevant content is visible. This example uses an app-owned test marker; replace it with a stable selector from your page, or add a marker whose meaning is “the screenshot’s content is ready.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesconst puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
(async () => {
const browser = await puppeteer.launch({ headless: true });
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.setViewport({ width: 1440, height: 1000 });
await page.goto('https://example.com', {
waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded',
timeout: 30_000,
});
await page.waitForSelector('[data-testid="page-ready"]', {
visible: true,
timeout: 15_000,
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
Install Puppeteer in your project with npm install puppeteer. Run the script with Node.js. The example uses domcontentloaded to avoid treating the full browser load event as the application-ready signal; the selector wait is what gates the capture. Puppeteer’s selector wait resolves immediately if the selector is already present, so choose one that actually signifies the desired state. The documented default selector timeout is 30 seconds in the Puppeteer 25.12.0 API reference; this example deliberately sets a shorter, explicit timeout. See Page.waitForSelector() and Page.goto().

Choose a readiness condition that matches the application
| Wait condition | When it fits | Limit to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Visible content selector | The screenshot has a clear element that appears when the desired view is ready. This is the best default for most captures. | A selector that exists too early will not wait for later data or visual changes. |
| App-owned readiness marker | Several async steps must finish, or you control the app and can define precisely when the relevant view is ready. | The marker only works if the app sets it after all screenshot-relevant work is complete. |
| Framework stability | A controlled Angular test setup exposes Testability and stability matches the state you need. | It is Angular-specific and pending work can delay stability even when the target already looks complete. |
| Network idle | A supplemental signal for pages that become quiet after their relevant requests finish. | Background polling or analytics may keep the network busy; completed requests do not guarantee all later rendering is done. |
| Fixed sleep | Only where no observable signal is available and a bounded delay is an acceptable compromise. | It wastes time on fast runs and can still be too short on slow ones. |
Puppeteer’s networkidle0 and networkidle2 navigation conditions mean, respectively, no more than zero or two active connections for an idle period. The documented idle period is 500 ms in the Puppeteer 25.12.0 API context. These are connection heuristics, not a promise that a Vue or Angular view is ready. See PuppeteerLifeCycleEvent.
Vue: mount completion may not mean view completion
Vue’s mounted hook runs after that component’s DOM tree has been created and inserted. Vue’s documented guarantee excludes async components and components inside <Suspense> trees. Mounting therefore makes a useful signal for synchronous structure, but it does not prove that network-backed content or every asynchronous descendant has settled. Wait for the specific content the screenshot needs, or set a marker only after the relevant data and rendering logic finish. See Vue’s mounted lifecycle hook and Vue’s client-side rendering guidance.

Angular: use Testability only when its setup and meaning fit
Angular’s Testability provides isStable() and whenStable(). The API describes whenStable() as invoking its callback when Angular is stable or the supplied timeout expires, whichever comes first. Testability is available by default for apps bootstrapped through an NgModule; apps bootstrapped with bootstrapApplication need testing support providers to include it. See Angular Testability.
Stability is not the same as “the exact view I want is visible.” Pending HTTP requests, timers, requestAnimationFrame, and other pending tasks can postpone stability. A persistent timer may keep the app unstable even after the screenshot content looks complete. Prefer a content-specific selector or an app-owned readiness signal when that more directly represents the pixels you need; investigate stability timeouts rather than increasing them blindly. See Angular Testability.

Wait for a compound condition or capture one element
When readiness depends on more than one observable state, use page.waitForFunction() with a specific browser-side predicate and an explicit timeout. For example, if the app exposes a readiness attribute only after data is rendered:
await page.waitForFunction(
() => document.querySelector('[data-testid="results"]')?.getAttribute('data-ready') === 'true',
{ timeout: 15_000 },
);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'results.png', fullPage: true });
For an image of only one region, wait for that region and use its element handle’s screenshot method:

Troubleshoot screenshots that are early, blank, or timing out
- The script captures a shell or empty app: The wait selector is likely a root container created before content. Choose a selector for the actual results, headline, or other screenshot-critical element.
- The selector wait returns immediately: Puppeteer found the selector already in the DOM. Use a selector that appears only at readiness, require visibility, or wait for an app-owned state attribute.
- The selector times out: Check that the page loaded the expected route, the selector matches the rendered DOM, the app did not report a JavaScript or data error, and the timeout is long enough for the intended operation. Keep the wait bounded.
networkidlenever arrives: Persistent requests such as polling or analytics can prevent idle. Replace it with the content selector, or use it only alongside a clear content-specific condition.- Angular stability times out: Confirm Testability is included for the bootstrap method and inspect pending HTTP requests, timers, animation frames, or other long-running tasks. If the target content is already visible, a selector may be a better capture contract.
- The element screenshot fails: Ensure the handle was returned and points to the intended visible element before calling
screenshot().

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wait for Vue or Angular to finish every possible background task?
There is no universal finish condition for background work. Define readiness around the content being captured; unrelated ongoing work may never settle.
Should I use networkidle0 or networkidle2?
Neither is a render-complete guarantee. Use one only if the page’s connection behavior makes it a useful supplemental condition; a content-specific selector is generally clearer.
