After election officials verify your identity, vote on the electronic machine in this order: federal deputy, state or district deputy, two senators, governor, and president. You can vote without registered biometrics, but phones and similar electronic devices must stay outside the voting booth.
When and where to vote in 2026
The first round of Brazil’s 2026 general election is scheduled for 4 October; a possible second round is scheduled for 25 October. Polling hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brasília time, so account for local time differences. Check your assigned polling section before election day using the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) voter services. The TSE expects more than 155 million people to be eligible to vote in 2026, but these dates and procedures are specific to this election.

What identification to bring
Present an official photo ID to election officials. The TSE lists identity documents, a passport, a driver’s license, a physical work card, a legally recognized professional card, a social identity document, and e-Título as accepted options when e-Título displays your photo. The paper voter registration card alone is not a substitute for official photo identification. Birth and marriage certificates, as well as the digital work card, are not accepted as identification.
#1 Best Overall
- Using e-Título: Check in advance that your digital voter title displays your photo. If it does not, bring another accepted official photo ID.
- Using a paper voter registration card: Bring an accepted photo ID as well; the card alone is insufficient.
- Using another document: Make sure it is one of the official photo IDs accepted by the TSE.
What happens if you do not have registered biometrics?
You can still vote if you have not registered biometrics or the machine cannot recognize your fingerprint. Biometric identification is one way to confirm your identity, not a condition that by itself removes your right to vote. The election official follows the applicable fallback procedure, which may include checking your details and entering your year of birth. Article 20 of TSE Resolution No. 23.759/2026 says that when a voter has no biometric record, authorization to vote is given by entering the year of birth as reported by the voter.
Follow the poll worker’s instructions if a fingerprint scan fails or you have no registered biometric data. Bring your accepted photo ID so officials can verify your identity.
Keep phones and electronics out of the booth
Before entering the voting booth, leave your phone, camera, video camera, and other electronic devices that could compromise vote secrecy with election officials at the designated location. The TSE expressly prohibits taking these devices into the booth. You may bring a printed paper reminder with your candidate numbers, so prepare one beforehand if it will help you vote in the correct order.
Vote in the 2026 ballot order
The 2026 general-election ballot has six choices. Enter the candidate or party number for each office in sequence, and check the information shown on the screen before proceeding.
Rank #3
- Federal deputy
- State deputy or, in the Federal District, district deputy
- Senator for the first seat
- Senator for the second seat
- Governor
- President
For each choice, the machine displays the candidate’s name, photograph, office, and party affiliation. Use those details to check that the number you entered corresponds to the candidate you intend to select. If the displayed details do not match, ask an election official for help rather than guessing about a button sequence.
The TSE’s voter-facing guidance establishes the order and the information displayed, but does not fully establish the precise key sequence for correcting an entry or choosing and confirming a blank or null vote. This guide therefore does not give button-by-button directions for those actions.
Finish voting and collect your proof
After you complete the ballot, election officials provide proof of voting. Collect it before leaving the polling place.
