To play a Motion Photo on a Samsung Galaxy, open it in Gallery and tap View motion photo. To change how it plays, tap the dropdown at the upper right and choose an available effect, such as Boomerang or Slow-mo. The controls and effects depend on your device and software version.
How do I view a Motion Photo on my Samsung Galaxy?

How do I change the view or effect on a Samsung Motion Photo?
With the Motion Photo open in Gallery, tap View motion photo, then tap the dropdown in the upper-right corner. Select an effect offered on your device, such as Boomerang or Slow-mo. Samsung also documents an option in this menu to turn Motion Photo off. The specific choices may vary by device and software.

Is the effect different from the capture window?
Yes. The Gallery dropdown changes playback treatment; the capture-window setting determines which part of the moment the camera records. On the interface documented by Samsung US, go to Camera viewfinder → Quick controls → Settings → Advanced picture options → Motion photo capture, then choose Before and after shutter or Before shutter only. These labels and options may not appear on every Galaxy.

How can I save a different moment as a still image?
If you want a different frame rather than a new playback effect, open the Motion Photo in Gallery, tap its playback thumbnail or View motion photo, and move the playback bar to the moment you want. Pause there if needed, then tap the Quick Trim icon to save that moment as a still image. Samsung’s Japan Motion Photo guide also documents exporting a Motion Photo as a video or GIF for sharing.

Why might Motion Photo be unavailable or missing?
Motion Photo is a camera option for standard Photo mode, not a feature available in every mode or on every Galaxy. Samsung Australia lists several conditions that can make the option unavailable on applicable device variants:

These are documented examples, not universal rules for all regions and models. Samsung Japan likewise notes that unsupported image sizes can prevent activation and that scene optimization switching to Night mode may turn the feature off. If Motion Photo appears enabled but no clip was saved, critically low internal storage is one possible cause identified by Samsung Australia. No. Choose best face is a separate group-photo editing feature, and the documented capability is model-specific. Samsung US describes it under a photo’s Details; its Galaxy A27 support page identifies Best Face as A57-only and requires Motion Photo to be on. For that model-specific feature, Samsung lists capture of up to 3 seconds, results for up to 5 people, and an output image up to 12MP. Those limits should not be assumed for other Galaxy devices.
